i am going to be shortly be doing some HVAC drawings and am presently in the process of going through several completed drawings and creating blocks which i might find usefull. what would be the best way of organizing them, ideas so far are to have a folder and save individual blocks in it as i go, the other option is to have one dwg with all the blocks in it with descriptions. are there any pro's or con's with each method? also when creating blocks is it best to leave them unitless or as i will mainly be working in mm use that?

of course there are!

we prefer individual files as they can just be WBLOCKed out of your assembly drawings and are easy to update. We have a file structure with seperate mechanical, electrical & misc folders and the mechanical folder is further broken down.

However, if you use Design Center or Palettes putting all your blocks in a single drawing mapped to the palette makes a lot of sense. That way you can update the block within the containing drawing and everybody who uses that palette will have the most up to date version available to them.

a few years back I would have said unitless but if you haven't set your INS* variables just right (and sometimes if you have) AutoCAD often brings them in imperially scaled so I now create mine in mm. I haven't reqorked old ones though.
