I've had this problem before, I also found the answer here, but I've gone through the search and I can't find it.

I get the problem where I copy a drawing go to paste it into another and it just reads

-pasteclip

and nothing appears

no layers are locked or frozen, the drawing hasn't disapeared off into space and I remember the answer was repairing a windows file(?)

Although I can't remember which one and how to do it.

Anyone any ideas. I don't think that the original post was made by me, as I'm sure my searches would have picked it up.

Thanks.

Alice.

Are you copying with base point? I sometimes found if you don't AutoCAD freaks out :?

yeah I've tried it with basepoint. Oddly enough I tried just copying one word from the drawing and pasting it in. That went fine, then I tried the whole drawing again and when I hit paste the word came up. It's like it ignored the last copy comand even though it said it had copied.

The problem was first reported in 2007 specifically with drawings saved in 2000 dwg file format. Is that the one you are thinking of? There was a hotfix for it.

possibly. I guess I could try it.

I'll do a search for the hotfix and let you know how I get on.

yeah I'm using 2007, profile's lying. got to change that. Checked it out, looked pretty confusing, but realised I could just convert it with DWG True convert and Wellah! It works!

Thanks Remark. You Champ!

The "HotFix" link no longer exists. I need an answer. This problem has plagued me for ages. File from others is where I have the problem. I try exploding, removing x-refs... whatever.... copy with base point to another file and all I get is pasteclip with nothing. Please somebody, help.

Oh, BTW, I'm using AutoCAD 2002 (which is basically 2000). I've used 2007 with the same problem. HELP!

I think the Hotfix was included in a later service pack so wasnt need as a stand alone anymore.

The problem comes if you get a drawing from a 2007/2008 user who has not applied the hotfix or SP.

The easiest way to correct one of these drawings is to open and re-save it in DWGTrueview (or True convert).
