happyunited Posted April 10, 2008 Posted April 10, 2008 I had about 15dwgs in a folder, now within that folder there were sub-folders containing xrefs (as shown in the attached pic) Now I have had to move everything to another folder and now the Xref's are not displaying when I open the drawings in the new location its still looking for the xref's in the old location!! I thought you could move everything and ACAD would know to look for them? Any help is much appreciated. Quote
Hedgehog Posted April 10, 2008 Posted April 10, 2008 Nope... it has a specific path for the old xref's & it's still looking there. 3 options... 1 go through each drawing re-pathing the xref's... 2 set up a projectname & write the paths for that project in options/files... the latter has the advantage that you can move them at a later date & just change the paths in options. 3 see Hoozin's suggestion below Alaaaaaaaaaaaan... where is he? Hoozin Posted April 10, 2008 Posted April 10, 2008 There's an option when you XREF it in to set a relative path vs. an absolute path. If you set it to a Relative Path, it will always remember the location of the XREF with relation to the actual drawing itself. You can't change subfolder names, but you as long as you keep everything together, you can move it wherever you want. Quote
SLW210 Posted April 10, 2008 Posted April 10, 2008 You need to specify No Path. From AutoCAD help. Specify No Path When no path information is saved with the attached external reference, the following search is initiated in the order shown: Current folder of the host drawing Project search paths defined on the Files tab in the Options dialog box and in the PROJECTNAME system variable Support search paths defined on the Files tab in the Options dialog box Start In folder specified in the Microsoft® Windows® application shortcut Specifying the No Path option is useful when moving a set of drawings to a different folder hierarchy or to an unknown folder hierarchy. Dipali Posted April 11, 2008 Posted April 11, 2008 I do this all the time. and i support hoozin's suggestion. For how to change absolute path to relative path refer to few of this threads http://www.cadtutor.net/forum/showthread.php?t=21378 http://www.cadtutor.net/forum/showthread.php?t=21218 also refer to this one http://www.cadtutor.net/forum/showthread.php?t=18695 http://www.cadtutor.net/forum/showthread.php?t=10638&highlight=xref+drive Quote
dvjstyles Posted December 23, 2008 Posted December 23, 2008 how to relative path a materials texture? I have all the 'raster image references' in my drawings as relative paths - this works great for transfering the drawing and associated folder to another machine. I want to have the same set up for the custom jpegs I have used as textures for the materials in this drawing. Acad doesnt give you an option for this, like it does with raster images, so how is it done? Quote
