ARGV
Can inventor import solidWorks Assembly files and figure out the mates and such, or do they all need to be re-done? Can it import .SLDPRT and maybe .SLDDRW files without too much trouble? thanks again, -Argv
JD Mather
Inventor will import *.sldprt files as base solids. The sketch and feature tree can be rebuilt with Feature Recognition (works similar to SolidWorks). Inventor will import *.sldasm files. The assembly constraints must be rebuilt. Inventor will not import SolidWorks drawing files.

Are there any tools, like a massive import tool that would help convert a large batch of parts and assemblies to inventor? How is the integrity and/or compatibility of solidworks -> inventor imports? Any chance of error, or is the import process pretty seamless? Any other pertinent information for a company that might be looking to switch to all Autodesk, if only to save from having to buy two licenses per year? thanks. -Argv
JD Mather
If you get the software you might start with this document to avoid a lot of frustration http://home.pct.edu/~jmather/AU2007/MA105-1L%20Mather.pdf I don't have an update for 2010 Ribbon interface, but if you've gone through the same thing with SolidWorks ribbon you should be fine. Inventor includes license of AutoCAD for free. Unless a part/assembly changes you should be able to simply use the legacy drawings going forward. I should be getting the trial soon hopefully. We'll see how it goes. thanks again, -Argv
