AQucsaiJr Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 On occation I get drawings that will not zoom to extents. Almost like there is somthing hidden in space. I check to make sure all layers are on and not frozen to be sure there is not a hidden object on a layer I can't see, but somtimes that does not get it. What else can I do to fix this extents problem? Quote
CADMASTER1128 Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 Have you tried to select the area of which you wish to zoom to? Quote
AQucsaiJr Posted July 13, 2009 Author Posted July 13, 2009 yes... I can soom using a window, however I want to get rid of whatever is keeping me from being able to zoom to extents. Quote
AQucsaiJr Posted July 13, 2009 Author Posted July 13, 2009 I use the command LIMITS and selcect what I would like to be the limits but there is still a gap all the way around the drawing. This gap is only on some of the drawings. I have a feeling there are object in space that are within blocks or somthing, making it so that I cant see them or select them. Quote
lpseifert Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 Try this... Erase > All > Remove > select everything you want to keep Quote
AQucsaiJr Posted July 13, 2009 Author Posted July 13, 2009 dosn't seem any different... Maybe its just me... it just seems like other drawings can zoom closer to the border than others? I use the same template to start every drawing and, in general, the drawing settings are not changed. Quote
Ryder76 Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 Try using quick select by layer or laywalk to identify what actually resides on each layer. You may find it that way. Another thing that happens to us is that we have a macro that automatically draws a revcloud and places a triangle. Sometimes we have to explode the cloud, then hit undo to get our zoom extents to work properly. Nope - can't explain why - just know the fix. Maybe if you explode everything and then hit undo it will work for you. Good luck and let us know what happens. Quote
AQucsaiJr Posted July 13, 2009 Author Posted July 13, 2009 well... I used the erase>all>remove and removed everything I wanted... No apparent effect, but when I saved the drawing, closed it, and then reopened and zoom to extents, now it does... hmm... bit of a glitch I guess... I will try it on a few more drawings that have this similar problem and note any differences. Quote
stevsmith Posted July 14, 2009 Posted July 14, 2009 do you have any radius dimensions on your drawing? If these are rather large radius' then the centre mark may cause the extents to zoom right out to show the ctr point. Delete any radius dimensions you have. and try to zoom extents. see if that works. Quote
AQucsaiJr Posted July 14, 2009 Author Posted July 14, 2009 No.. We don't really use anything that calls for a radius. Quote
nocturne00 Posted July 14, 2009 Posted July 14, 2009 Have you tried the LAYWALK as Ryder suggested? its a good way to trace some out of place objects another thing to consider would be an out of place defpoint in space, or an over extended text or mtxt box, or a block with an insertion point(0,0) and object location very far from each other. Quote
AQucsaiJr Posted July 14, 2009 Author Posted July 14, 2009 I have not tried the LAYWALK command because the erase>all>remove seems to work so far. I just save the drawing after using the command, close, and reopen and it seems to zoom to extents every time so far. Quote
Ryder76 Posted July 14, 2009 Posted July 14, 2009 Definitely use what works when you are in a crunch and busy. When you have time check out LAYWALK and see what it can do for you - it's pretty cool. Quote
mossieramm Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 Try this...Erase > All > Remove > select everything you want to keep Followed by a purge sometimes helps. Quote

Hi Stev, Slight hijacking but it seems the thread here is answered... do you have a solution to the radial points other than exploding the dimensions ()? I dimension in PS and as a result if the point is outside the drawing border it makes plotting to extents a PITA... Gary Quote
Gemma Elizabeth Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 I have had this problem before. I suppose the quick fix solution is select and copy the wanted elements and paste into a new file? Quote
deres Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 It's probably a base point (that is set near to God...) from a block in your drawing... BUT... Here's an old trick that worked on ver.12, type: z (enter) .5x (enter) ...now you can (at least you could...) zoom extents! Quote
