SuperCAD Posted July 14, 2009 Posted July 14, 2009 I tried searching here and Google for this, but couldn't come up with anything. I'm working in 3D with my visual style set to Realistic and the projection set to Perspective (EDIT: visual style doesn't matter, it's perspective that is causing it). When I used my middle mouse button to move or rotate the object, there is a lot of lag between the mouse movement and when the objects actually move on the screen (I can have the mouse cursor on the other side of the screen before the objects follow). This just recently starting happening and I don't know how it got messed up. These are the setting in the Tune Log (which are the recommended settings): Machine Configuration --------------------- Processor Speed : 3.0 GHz RAM : 3567 MB 3D Device --------- Name : NVIDIA Quadro FX 3500 Manufacturer : NVIDIA Chip set : Quadro FX 3500 Memory : 256.0 MB Driver : 6.14.0011.6939 Your machine contains a certified 3D Device with a driver version that is certified. nocturne00 Posted July 14, 2009 Posted July 14, 2009 is the model a very complex/detailed one? (e.g. w/ 3d trees, furniture, etc) if so i think your processor and GPU wont be able to handle it. One way to check would be to turn your object layers ON one by one in tandem with using 3d orbit whilst turning them on to see at which point your computer will Lag. if this happens, its a hardware upgrade for you. but if the lagging starts while only a few layers are on, the problem would be on the layer you've just switched on. SuperCAD Posted July 14, 2009 Author Posted July 14, 2009 Fortunately, there was a newer driver for my card which seems to have fixed the problem. HOWEVER, this was one of those "all of a sudden" occurrences that happened while I was using the same driver version. One day it was working fine, and the next it wasn't. I guess what I'm looking for is to know what kind of option or setting would cause that behavior. This way, if it happens in the future, I'll know how to correct it without having to reinstall drivers. Quote
ReMark Posted July 14, 2009 Posted July 14, 2009 Working with large, complex 3D drawings, can be a problem. I see you are using XP Pro. Are you running with the /3GB switch enabled in your boot.ini file? Quote
SuperCAD Posted July 14, 2009 Author Posted July 14, 2009 Here's the funny thing: I had one object in a brand new file that measured 8"x144"x96". I did apply a material pattern to it, but that's not what caused it to get all funky. I've had way more graphically intense files (proper screw threads and all that stuff) that worked just fine with materials assigned to them. I wish I could have recorded a video to show you what I was talking about. And yes, I do enable the 3GB switch in XP (do it every morning when the comp goes on), but that didn't help. Quote
CADMASTER1128 Posted July 14, 2009 Posted July 14, 2009 So the newer driver did help? Also, have you checked to see if you have an approved Autodesk graphics card? Quote
SuperCAD Posted July 14, 2009 Author Posted July 14, 2009 If you look above, you may notice the "Your machine contains a certified 3D Device with a driver version that is certified" in my first post. The driver helped, but I don't think that was the problem. I was using the older driver without problems, and I must have altered a setting which caused it to act goofy because it WAS working perfectly until I unintentionally changed something. I just don't know what that something was. Installing a new driver must have forced a reset of sorts with my 3DCONFIG, I just can't figure out what was different. Quote
