Hello all,

I recently started a new job here in Southern California and one of my first projects is to find a way to convert all of the original Drafix Ultra 4.1 drawings to Autocad. I have done tons of research to find a way to do it but havent found a solid answer yet. I am running 2007 LT.

I have SolidWorks 08 and AutoSketch 9 at my home office for personal use but even they wont open the files. They're all saved in .dwg format but not autocad .dwg and they do not have the original Drafix program to work with them now (switched to autocad 5 years ago and never re-worked the original drawings or convert them to dxf's.

i am at a loss for what to do right now. if someone could point me in the right direction or let me know of a way to convert them please let me know.

A batch converter of some kind? I used one once about twenty years ago that would batch convert just about anything to just about anything. Don't remember what it was called, but there has to be something out there now that is as good if not better. Have you googled for one yet?

I have spent hours searching for a batch converter. The best I have come up with is a dwg-pdf batch converter (it doesnt see the different dwg format, it still converts it to a pdf). it allows me to at least plot and look at the prints, but it would be best to be converted to a workable format.

but yes, if anyone has a particular batch converter they know of please let me know.

thanks

Can one of you Mods change the title of this thread to something like DWG BATCH CONVERTER NEEDED. Maybe the OP will get a list of similar threads at the bottom that will be helpful. Thanks - yal are the best.

Drafix was bought out by autodesk and became autosketch. but there is a difference between the output files. they are both dwg's but dwg's created by Drafix (at least Drafix Ultra 4.1) cannot be opened by autosketch or autoCAD. It was a cheaper alternative to autocad but for a company like mine they should have known better and bought autocad.

You might call your autodesk vendor because Autocad 2010 might be able to open the files where Autocad 2007 might haven't. You could always call tech-support and ask. From what I understand, when a company is bought out like that they usually work hard to get the file format issues resolved with the later releases. Therefore, the files might not work directly with 2007, they might with 2010. I'm just not sure.

Of coarse, if you don't have a subscription and only have 2007, it wouldn't matter anyway. But I'm not sure what you have and don't have.
