how to draw a spline that's a given length

Hello: How can I draw a spline at a given length? I know how to do it w/ a polyline, i just pick one point and then the command prompt asks if i want to specify a length; but i don't get that option with a spline.

Command: spline

Specify first point or [Object]:

Specify next point: @12.0

Another way.... you could draw one slightly longer than what you want, then use the ._lengthen command to shorten it to the exact length.
