ksperopoulos Posted July 25, 2009 Posted July 25, 2009 I have created a lot of dynamic blocks that have multiple parameters/actions (i.e. polar stretch, visibility, linear stretch, flip, etc.). I can insert the block into the drawing and manipulate the block using these parameters/actions. I copy the block to as many places in the drawings as needed and adjust as needed. But after I save the drawing and open it up the next day, the blocks lose all their functionality. Why do I lose the functionality of these dynamic blocks and is there a way to get those parameters/actions back? Quote
SuperCAD Posted July 25, 2009 Posted July 25, 2009 This will seem like an oddball approach, but try creating the blocks again on a different computer to see if they work. I made a bunch of blocks at work that would constantly lose their dynamic-ness, but I re-created them at home (using the exact same procedure) and emailed them to my work account, and they work perfectly (even if I C&P or save the drawing and reopen it). ksperopoulos Posted July 25, 2009 Author Posted July 25, 2009 Would I really have to recreate them? I put in a lot of time to these blocks that may take a lot more time to recreate. Do you think that if I opened the original block file and did a SAVE AS it would do the same thing? Quote
SuperCAD Posted July 26, 2009 Posted July 26, 2009 Nope. I tried everything I could to re-save/re-name the blocks to see if it would help, and it would only work if I recreated the block on my home computer. I don't know if anyone has come up with a reason why some blocks act this way. All I'm saying is to give it a try. If it works, then you know what you have to do. If not, I can't help you then. Quote
ksperopoulos Posted July 26, 2009 Author Posted July 26, 2009 These blocks are a part of our departments template. Are you saying I need to recreate them on everyone's computer? Quote
SuperCAD Posted July 26, 2009 Posted July 26, 2009 No, just try it on one other computer. Then try them on other computers to make sure they work for every one. Otherwise, try making a less complicated block. Simplify them as much as you can. Quote
GE13579 Posted July 27, 2009 Posted July 27, 2009 Seems rather strange for that to happen- I've never had a problem with dynamic blocks- any chance you could post an example? Quote
Glen Smith Posted July 27, 2009 Posted July 27, 2009 Could you be saving the drawing and blocks as a previous version of CAD which did not have Dynamic block functionality? I don't know exactly how AutoCAD handles unsupported data when you save the drawing to a previous version - I think that I read it keeps the info but won't let you use the dynamic part. Check Tools - Options - Open and Save. Glen Quote
Krztoff Posted July 30, 2009 Posted July 30, 2009 I have had similar problems. I created a drawing and added dynamic height blocks, after opening the drawing few days later the inserted block names had changed and they didn't have the blue drop-down triangle where I can choose which attributes to display. However i could insert the original block and it worked fine, only the previously inserted ones had turned into vegetables Quote
ksperopoulos Posted July 30, 2009 Author Posted July 30, 2009 It is exactly how Krztoff describes. See attachment. Dynamic Block Problem.pdf Quote
Krztoff Posted August 28, 2009 Posted August 28, 2009 Hmm, today I had the same issue and was simply using the BURST command on my blocks that had changed, and i noticed that i had to use it twice on each block to have them blown to bits, and then i noticed that if i use it once, the dynamic block functionallity returned, i don't know if this will help in other cases but worth giving a shot.
