I thought that after putting text in at an angle other than "0" MTEXT would reset itself the next time it was used.

 

Anyway, when you use MTEXT you're prompted to pick the first corner. Make the pick. But before you specify the opposite corner take a look at your command line at the bottom of the screen. There is an option for Rotation that allows you to specify the angle. Type "R" (for Rotation), press Enter, specify the angle, press Enter then specify the opposite corner. After creating your text it should be depicted at the angle you typed in.
