Hi I'm a Newbee and pretty new to ACAD & Blocks.

My questions is this.

I want to know if I can put a LISP into a block, specifcally I want to perform the following so I can export into a table or Excel.

I want to be able to put a numbe of blocks connected by a line or polyline and have the length between two of the blocks be an attribute in one of them. for instance block 1 connects to block 2 which connects to block 3. I would like the length between 1 & 2 to be in an attribute in 2 and the length between 2 & 3 in an attribute in three. etc. etc.

Can this be done?

lisp is a program that is run inside the autocad enviroment

you can write one to do what you want.

i would start learning the basics using your idea as a goal.

when you get started then post questions here and let us help you.

if you just want someone to post the program or write it for you then you will not learn anything

John thank you for your thoughts. You are right about my learning. I guess my situation is that I have a certification in fire alarm system design, have small one man home based design company. I am self taught in ACAD basics (very basic). I'm starting to grow and am trying to find solutions that will help expidite my designs.

However, I'm not a programmer and don't understand the language nor at this phase of my life am I able to dedicate the tiime to become one.

I have found this website very helpful with a couple of LISPS in the past. I was hoping someone had a solution already and was willing to share. Also, I am not adverse to paying someone a reasonable fee to cover their time to help me. If you know of someone or there is anyone reading this blog that is willing to assist I'd be greatful.

Thanks for the plug Buzzard,

This LISP isn't too difficult to create, but I wonder whether there is anything to gain in me writing it, if you are not prepared to learn anything from it, or compensate my time in creating it. However, I suppose others may learn from my posting.

Are you requesting that the user select the polyline connecting each block, then the block that the attribute should be filled is selected? What is the attribute tag?

Thank you Lee Mac & Buzzard. I don't want to waste the web site space but don't know how to contact Lee Mac directly. Feel free to contact me or I will contact you do go into more detail.

I am open to compensating you for your time. Also, if we are succesfull I would like to share the results. I have been impressed with the site. Its just that I've learned what I am good at and what I am not and recognize the value of relying on those with skill sets I don't have.

What I would like to accomplish is to place a number of dyna blocks into a drawing. Then connect them using a series of lines or if need be polylines. Then (peferably) use "eattext" command to extract the length of the lines between each pair of devices.

Each device would have an address/number attribute so it could be extracted in a numerical order and a length command for length from last device.

The blocks would be selected/picked by the eattext select button option so I could select multiple blocks that are connected in the drawing for controlled extraction.

Hope this overview makes sense.

I must be blind.

I cannot find any button or link for private message, can please advice?

There is nothing below my log-in. I have even searched the page using the search page command for the word private and only come up with the ones in the messages. There does not appear to be a link. I went to Lee Mac profile and it says he is not a member of any public group. I even added him to my buddy list. but nothing has changed. I'm at a loss.

Click on to the green letters in the upper right that say Private Messaging below your Log-in.

Thank your for the information & time Buzzard. Apparently I don't have private messaging privilages.

You have private messaging, Its just shut off in your user control panel. You need to click the box on.

I've searched every inch of my control panel including options and there is no private messaging box or reference anywhere. The only reference I could find was after I logged into edit email and checked forums and found a linke to private messaging. However, it said I don't have privlages or my account isn't registered yet.

Anyway I don't want to waste your time on this and thought maybe I'd email the AutoCAD Forums administrator. Or is that you?

For your information Buzzard, Until this time when I logged on there was no private message box showing. It is now and mysteriously the private message boxes are already checked. So apparenly someone with administrator privilages turned it on. Also, the other area that previously said I don't have private message privilages is also, now showing me a private message folder with controls.

I appreciate your time with helping me with this. However, I do not appreciate your condensending attitude and rude remarks to someone new to the forum. Perhaps you should go to the options page and on the section that says "Check Attitudes Here" check the box.

Guys, there is not need to argue over this small matter...

Buzzard, I've read your post and I don't think its in good accordance with the message this forum is trying to portray. I realise it can be frustrating at times, but spare the frustration from the forum - after all, no-one is demanding that you post.

Everyone is new at some point, and we should welcome them, not immediately drive them off with belittling comments pointing out their inexperience. After all, where would the forum be without the members...

Ron, I hope this experience has not deterred you from our site - I'm sure you'll like it here.

Gentlemen, I'm not deterred at all and I have a very thick skin and a very short memory. I don't believe in harboring bad feelings. Some of my best client relationships have started on rocky ground.

Buzzard, lets start anew see if you guys can get me started with developing some LISPs. Who knows maybe I'll learn how to write some by accident.
