External Reference not Showing up

I have a somewhat weird problem.

I have two drawings (A and B) that both XREF the same drawing ©. In drawing A the XREF shows up properly, but in drawing B the XREF does not show up on the drawing at all. As far as I can tell drawing C has been XREFed into drawings A and B using the same settings.

I have unloaded and reloaded the XREF but it does not help. I have also tried Thawing every layer (in both the XREF and drawing B) and turning every layer on, but nothing shows up in drawing B (from the XREF).

I am just wondering why drawing C is not showing up in drawing B. Hopefully I have explained this well enough.

Using Civil3D 2009, thanks in advance.

Are drawing A,B and C all using the same units and/or UCS?

if the drawings are xrefed back & forth, it will creat circular reference & will not show properly. to make it work you need to xref them in 'overlay' mode instead of 'attach' mode

Yes, all drawings are using the same UCS and Units. Even if I do a ZOOM EXTENTS I still can't see anything.

Dipali, I will try to overlay instead of attach. May I ask, what is the difference between overlay and attach? and what do you mean exactly by circular reference? I am just curious so I can try to avoid this same problem in the future.

Danse,

sorry for not replying earlier. was bit busy & than it wentr out of my mind. yesturday i suddenely remembered it.

Overlay - the xref does not get carried away to the next drawing where you attach your this drawing.

Attach - the xref gets carried away to next drawing.

example:

drawing 'A' contains xref name drawing 'B' in attach mode & 'C' in overlay mode. so when you xref this drawing 'A' in new drawing 'D' you will see the drawing 'B' with it but the drawing 'C' will not be visible.

now back to circular reference. If u attach drawing 'B' in drawing 'A' in attach mode. an when u try to attach this drawing 'A ' in drawing 'B' it will detact the xref 'B' & give u message of circular reference. but if you keep it in 'overlay' mode it will not detect it.

I hope its bit clear now.
