Is it possible to set the colour of a layer to change when its printed out.

Bit of an oddball question this, but we have a client who insists that our work (which is added to his drawing) is in yellow. As anybody will tell you this is barely visible when printed. From that point onwards we issue and work with printed drawings, he only works with the electrical version. Problem for us, not for him, but he still insists on yellow.

So is it possible to set this layer to print out in an alternative colour, but remain in yellow when viewed in autoCAD.

The easiest way would be to create a specific .ctb file (based on your standards). When working on this particular client's files, just change the colour that yellow prints out to within the .ctb file you have created. You may notice that within the .ctb file, each of AutoCAD's 255 colours can be printed out to any colour you so wish - it is usually set to print out BYOBJECT, for example, this can be changed; with the minimum of fuss or customising of your AutoCAD.

If you then place this .ctb file within your shared network resource, all your co-workers can then print using the same settings.

I would simply change the CTB you currently use to print pen yellow to a color you like. Assuming you use CTBs.

Start the plot command, up in the upper right hand corner there should be a file specified with an extension of .ctb. If there is one pick the edit button off to the right of the name. You will be in the CTB file, go to the form view tab, pick on Color 2 (yellow), now in the upper right pick color and a drop down will come up letting you pick another color. If the ones shown won't work for you pick the last option, select colors and navigate to one that will work.

Save and close the file. Cancel out of the plot, or plot, either way.

If there is no file specified, pick one and go to above. If you always plot black and white you may only need to specify the monochrome.ctb that comes with autocad and you may not need the above.
