I have a some details that are directly referenced to a full building section ive drawn. the details need thick lineweight to show whats cut. but the building section doesn't as a whole. is there a way to control lineweights from view port to view port or am i going to have to layer lines and freeze the thick lines when i want to print the building section?

You can't do that with 2002, different layers will be required.

Then you can use the layer manager and while in a viewport use the VPLineweight column to specify the LW for that layer in that viewport.
