I use the insert file method to bring in layers, blocks, and dim / text styles to an existing or new drawings. Later when I'm purging the drawing of unused information (blocks, styles, etc) I have a block named the file name that I inserted for the information.

I am unable to purge this block. It shows in the insert dialog box but not in the purge list. This also prevents me from purging any layers that are used in this "block"

How cab I remove this block? Is this block (file) inserted in the drawing for good or is there a way to remove this block?

I am using LT2010

Lets hear some suggestions.

try exploding the block, then you will see what layers everything in the block is on. then you could purge it.

That does not work. When the block is inserted and exploded the layers and the block are still unpurgable. I believe this is because there is still a reference to the block and therefore can not be purged. It seems to me that when a file is inserted into a drawing the refernce to that file is attached or nested or in the file and can't be removed.

Is this correct anybody?

Sounds like the block is still in the dwg, you cant purge it if its in the dwg, you have to delete it and any copies of it

can you QSELECT the block by name and erase it, then purge it?

I cannot find where the drawing would be. There are no off or frozen layers. zoom all or zoom extents finds nothing. This file was actually never inserted in the drawing.

When you use the insert command, browse to a file, insert that file, but you escape out of the command before you actually insert it and you get all the information from that file but not the geometry.

I now have a block that is the file, in this case a site plan, that I can insert and explode but cannot purge.

I do not have much experience with this command but it does not seem to find or recognize the block either.

If you insert the file as an Exploded block in the first place, then there is no block in the drawing. :D

If you insert it as a block and then explode it, then the block definition is in the drawing.
