Kel Posted September 1, 2009 Posted September 1, 2009 My office uses AutoCAD 2007 and one of our consultants uses AutoCAD 2010. When we ask this consultant to save his files out to an older version (in this case, AutoCAD 2007) he says that is objects in the drawing can not be saved out to the older version and therefore, they do not show up in the drawings that he sends us. Has anyone else heard of this? I am not very familiar with AutoCAD 2010 and am not sure if this is an error on our consultants end or if AutoCAD did in fact design the program to work this way. Any solutions are greatly appreciated! Quote
ReMark Posted September 1, 2009 Posted September 1, 2009 AutoCAD 2010 can save to 2007 file format. Might he be referring to objects created with a newer feature present in 2010? Are we talking 2D or 3D drawings? Quote
ReMark Posted September 1, 2009 Posted September 1, 2009 2010 has enchanced dynamic blocks, the ability to add constraints to 2D geometry (parametrics) and free-form design/modeling. Ask him if he is using any of these features in drawings he would normally share with your company. Quote
Kel Posted September 1, 2009 Author Posted September 1, 2009 Thanks! I believe he is using some 3D features in version 2010 and that he is referring to objects created with a newer feature present in 2010. We only use AutoCAD in 2D. Unfortunitly our consultant does not know if he is using any of these features in drawings he would normally share with us. Now our consultant is saying that he is found an export command that looks like it might work and it appears that it is. Thanks for the advice. Quote
ReMark Posted September 1, 2009 Posted September 1, 2009 I think your consultant should know if he is using any of the new features of 2010 in his drawings. I don't see how he couldn't know unless AutoCAD 2010 is the very first version of the program he has ever worked with. How long have you worked with this consultant? Quote
ReMark Posted September 1, 2009 Posted September 1, 2009 An export command? What file format is he exporting to? Quote
ReMark Posted September 1, 2009 Posted September 1, 2009 Here is where you can have some fun with your consultant. Tell him to open AutoCAD 2010 and look at the top right-hand corner of his screen. Then tell him to click on the drop-down arrow to the right of the Help button. There, he can access the New Features Workshop function and learn about the features AutoDesk added to the software he is using. Now you'll appear smarter than your consultant. Quote
ReMark Posted September 1, 2009 Posted September 1, 2009 I just checked the available options under export in AutoCAD 2010. Honestly, I don't see what file format he could be exporting to that would be useful to your company if all you do is 2D. It sounds like you may have need to edit his drawings in some manner. Is that correct? Quote
Kel Posted September 1, 2009 Author Posted September 1, 2009 I don't think we need to any editing. It looks like the files will work just fine for this little patio addition. Thansk for all the help! Quote
Tankman Posted September 1, 2009 Posted September 1, 2009 Never used 2010 but, as ReMark stated, I'll bet he can save to an earlier *.dwg file if he knew how to. Your consultant might need a little help. Quote
