StuCad Posted September 2, 2009 Posted September 2, 2009 Dear All, New to Forum, so be gentle . Now working from home & trying to set up with AutoCad 2005 (Free copy). Previously at old job I managed to migrate screen & toolbar settings from saved .cui file for AutoCad 2006LT to 2008. Can anyone advise if possible to migrate (or should that be un-migrate to older platform) using same .cui file for 2006LT to 2005 ?? Tried changing .tag to .mnu file but that didn't work and can anyone get me back to my comfortable toolbar positions and screen set up. Incidentally does Cui File stand for Customisation User Interface. If not be interested to know what it really stands for? Thanks! stu. Quote
ReMark Posted September 2, 2009 Posted September 2, 2009 CUI = Custom User Interface. You were pretty close though. Quote
ReMark Posted September 2, 2009 Posted September 2, 2009 You want to try to use a custom cui file from AutoCAD LT 2006 in a full or LT version of 2005? Quote
ReMark Posted September 2, 2009 Posted September 2, 2009 What is a .tag file? I've never heard of it. I think both 2005 and 2006 used .cui files. Quote
StuCad Posted September 3, 2009 Author Posted September 3, 2009 Thanks for replying! I want to use .cui file saved previously on AutoCad 2006LT (at old workplace) onto my PC at home using AutoCad 2005 (Full Version not LT). To explain about 'tag', it was my clumsy way of saying that I changed file type in Windows Explorer from .cui to .mnu (menu template file) to see if that worked but it didn't seem to. As I could get a 'Menu Custumization Dialogue Box' that allowed me to browse for a .mnu file. But not a .cui file. Should I try same for allowable other menu files .mnc & .mns ?? Thanks once more. stu. Quote
ReMark Posted September 3, 2009 Posted September 3, 2009 I would be wary of using a customized .cui file created for LT in the full version of AutoCAD even if the release dates were the same. But you also want to use it in a release that is one year older. Sounds like a recipe for trouble to me. I hope you have a good supply of migraine pills at hand. Yeah, changing the file type from .cui to .mnu probably didn't make much sense so it is no wonder it didn't work. Quote
bonehead411 Posted September 3, 2009 Posted September 3, 2009 The CUI was introduced in 2006 and, as far as I am aware, is not backwards compatible. You may just have to bite the bullet and put in a bit of legwork, so to speak, to get your 2005 version how you like it. Quote
StuCad Posted September 3, 2009 Author Posted September 3, 2009 Thanks for your comments! Guess I'll have to do it the long way. Fortunately got a 'Print Screen' copy of how i want it, so on my way now to toolbars............. One last ask. Does the .cui file save set up in other areas, other than just how the Screen & Toolbars are displayed ?? If you can advise, would be much appreciated.. and thanks for your time. Rgds, stu. Quote
ReMark Posted September 4, 2009 Posted September 4, 2009 "Does the .cui file save set up in other areas, other than just how the Screen & Toolbars are displayed ??" Huh? What other areas are you talking about? Quote
StuCad Posted September 4, 2009 Author Posted September 4, 2009 Thanks Remark. If I knew what other areas, then I guess I wouldn't be asking the question ? But off the top of my head.... Where drawing files are saved to?... Autosave periods?... Text Styles?... Dimensioning Styles?... Linetypes & thickness?... Can't think of anything else but just wondered if .cui covered areas I can't think of. Excuse question but not touched AutoCad for about 14 months so a little rusty... Rgds. stu. Quote
alanjt Posted September 4, 2009 Posted September 4, 2009 CuiToMnu this will allow you to convert it to a .mnu file. however, as Remark said, i would be very careful about loading LT menus in full blown versions. with that having been said, you can easily rip out what you want from the newly created .mnu and modify your 2005 .mnu http://rkmcswain.blogspot.com/2007/09/convert-cui-to-mnu.html Quote
alanjt Posted September 4, 2009 Posted September 4, 2009 on a side note, the other day, i had a user going on an on about the "cooie" i had absolutely now idea what they were talking about. finally he opened the CUI editor and i realized what he was talking about. Quote
StuCad Posted September 8, 2009 Author Posted September 8, 2009 Thanks Alan. Or should that be "cooie" !!!!! Will look at your Blogspot link when I get the chance!
