Glen1980 Posted September 11, 2009 Posted September 11, 2009 I have just had the IT dept. install the update 1 for to my LT2010 as I'd experienced a couple of the more minor problems. Now LT has got al ot worse than it was before, it's been much more clunky (until I finally gave up on the ribbon and went back to classic view) but my main problem is that now when I try to select things with a selection box under commands such as trim, the box doesn't start from where I click so I have no idea where to select things from. As our drawings are fairly busy the box sometimes autosnaps which is causing me some unexpected results. Has anyone else suffered from this since installing the upgrade? Quote
ReMark Posted September 11, 2009 Posted September 11, 2009 Being that the IT department installed the update I'm sure they created a Restore point in case any problems were encountered right? So you can literally restore your system to the way it was prior to the installation of the update right? You say "the box doesn't strt from where I click." You also state that "the box sometimes autosnaps." Could it be something as simple as having SNAP enabled? Quote
ReMark Posted September 11, 2009 Posted September 11, 2009 People: There is no reason why a CAD department should be operating under the iron fist of the IT department. Someone, the CAD Manager (?), should have full administrative rights to install updates, new software, update drivers and tweak settings to get the best possible performance out of your computers. Show some backbone and talk to your department head. Tell him/her it is in the best interest of the department and the company that you have more control over your hardware and software. Anyway, as CAD users you're right up there with the gamers for sheer geekiness when it comes to computers. You can do this right? Quote
Glen1980 Posted September 11, 2009 Author Posted September 11, 2009 You say "the box doesn't strt from where I click." You also state that "the box sometimes autosnaps." Could it be something as simple as having SNAP enabled? I always leave autosnaps on and accept that occasionally when I click it'll autosnap to places I didn't intend, but before this problem I could always see straight away that it had happened I'll ask about the restore point, they haven't done anything else to our machines and I only save things to the network so I shouldn't loose anything. We don't really have a CAD manager any more and when we did he p1$$ed off the IT department to the extent they just ignored him. I do a lot of the CAD support for people in our dept. and test the new versions of AutoCAD but they won't let myself of anyone else have any admin rights at all. It is ridiculous I can't even remove icons from the start up menu or desktop! Quote
ReMark Posted September 11, 2009 Posted September 11, 2009 What do you show for Tools > Options > Drafting tab > AutoSnap Settings? Is Magnet checked off? Quote
ReMark Posted September 11, 2009 Posted September 11, 2009 There are SNAPS and there are OSNAPS. When you say AutoSnaps are you referring to the settings I mention above or to something else? Do you use Grid and Snap? Quote
Glen1980 Posted September 11, 2009 Author Posted September 11, 2009 The magnet box is checked. I have never used snaps or grids since they taught me AutoCAD 11 years ago at college! Release 12 ..good old days I have end, mid, int, node, centre, extension & insert set up as OSNAPS occasionally I do press F3 to turn them off if I am free hand moving notes etc. but I normally press shift and D for temporary override of Osnaps and tracking. dbroada Posted September 11, 2009 Posted September 11, 2009 People: There is no reason why...... You can do this right? Can you have a word with our guys please - after all, they are much nearer you than they are us. Our local IT are no happier about the situation than we are but our parent company have such tight IT guidelines, backed up with spy software that issues a report to your screen if anything has been added. ReMark Posted September 11, 2009 Posted September 11, 2009 IT = Big Brother watching you. Sure, for you Dave, anything (within reason). PM me their phone number. I'll give them a call. Shall I tell them "Dave says Hello"? Quote
chelsea1307 Posted September 11, 2009 Posted September 11, 2009 Threads like this make me so happy to be on the other end of the spectrum, I have full admin rights to my work computer and so does the rest of the office, pretty much you start out with them and only lose them if you are incompetent and cause more work for me or the other "IT/Engineer" person to do. One guy downloaded 3 viruses in one day and wanted to know why we took his admin rights and made it so he had to ask us for the password to download things... uh duh! Quote
ReMark Posted September 11, 2009 Posted September 11, 2009 It's one of the things (admin rights) I've insisted on at each job. I'll let IT install the network card on a computer I have speced and purchased directly and I'll even let them install Office and the company required anti-virus program (no big deal for the most part) but after that it's all up to me. I load the AutoDesk software, download and install any drivers I need, download LISP routines or 30-day trials of software I'm interested in (like CADwizz - a dwg viewer), and anything else I feel I need to do my job in the most efficient manner. Oh, and I do not have one game, not even Solitaire, on my computer (like the boss does!). Quote
