Frustrated by IV2010 Inventor Studio Animation

Hi Guys,

I have created a VERY simple disc that rotates around a pole. When I go into Inventor studio, i cannot rotate that component, all rotation options are greyed out.

What am I doing wrong? Can someone point me a tutorial to animate a very simple "gear" or rotation? I'm pulling my hair out.

Thanks in advance.

Can you attach what you have so far or at least some screen grabs?

when you are in the assembly, right click on the component in the design tree off to the left. Make sure that your part is not grounded.

This is normal. Inventor is waiting for you to tell it how you want to move the part.

Click on "Position" and it will give you the [triad] on the first component you picked to rotate or move.

Also, as Matt stated, make sure your component is not grounded or it can't move. You can check and un-ground the component in assembly, then go back to studio.

Also, check your constraints in assembly. This can effect how the model moves and how parts interact with each other. Sometimes adding a Rotational constraint on your rotational axis may help, but you'll just have to play with it.

Thanks KC. This was exactly my problem. Does the contact solver work in Studio? I am trying to animate a simple geneva gear... The driver gear rotates, but passes through the geneva gear. I am wondering how to make the same effect as the contact solver.

dynamic simulation. I dont know for sure but i dont think the contact works in studio. It relies on you to manually move or animate constraints. Dynamic sim will allow you to create contact sets.

I need to get couple of gears moving around each other. I facing the same problem. After selecting the triad I don't know what to do next. Can you please kindly tell me what to do next?

Yes. Attach your assembly here.
