Rafis Posted September 13, 2009 Posted September 13, 2009 Hi, I have to plot a drawing with un-limited length (width is 420mm - A2) How do I define this option in the page setup? Quote
ReMark Posted September 13, 2009 Posted September 13, 2009 Wouldn't the length be limited to the max size roll of paper you can load? I'd used a length in the page set up just under that. Quote
Rafis Posted September 13, 2009 Author Posted September 13, 2009 OK, let me explain again: the drawing is about 8 meter long, let's say that I define 10,000mm length. is there a setup property that can force the plotter to cut the paper when the drawing ends (about 8 meters)? Quote

You should be able to set up whatever size paper you need. We have plotted sheets 30 feet long in the past. Quote
nukecad Posted September 13, 2009 Posted September 13, 2009 Just set up a custom paper size in your plotter properties to the 8 meters, or whatever length you want. Quote
Coosbaylumber Posted September 13, 2009 Posted September 13, 2009 I tried that Custom Page routine years ago. Whatever Windows says, seems to over ride the intent. If you got Limits set up, and acurate as to width of paper and position of view, then just plot out to ALL and try that. Wm. Quote
ReMark Posted September 14, 2009 Posted September 14, 2009 As long as you are using the plotter driver and not a default Windows driver to plot there should be no problem setting up a custom plot. My longest plot has only been 5 feet but I've managed to do it on several occassions without a problem. 8 meters? Now that's a looooong plot! Quote
dbroada Posted September 14, 2009 Posted September 14, 2009 I have one drawing that is several meters long. I used to tell AutoCAD it was a 5m long plot and there was no problem. Once the limit of the drawing had been reached the plotter would stop and trim the page. Since a recent upgrade, it now continues to plot the entire 5m irrespective of when the drawing ended. In itself this wouldn't have been much of a problem as I can see (and hear) the plotter from my desk. The problem was I had to sent it to a plotter in our other office - 600 miles away in Scotland. I didn't know they had a roll of papre on the floor until some time later. Quote
Coosbaylumber Posted September 14, 2009 Posted September 14, 2009 I think your plot set up window is defaulting over to whatever M-S Windows is saying is OK with them. Ran into this once before in that would not take my changes and HOLD them for next drawing. Was informed this was a safety factor that M-S had installed in order to save paper. Am using R-2008 here and see if your plot control box has a save upon exiting option, otherwise you have to set up everything on every attempt to plot. And, as Mark mentioned, make sure "Whoever" installed the plotter driver given from Autodesk and did not conveniently default over to the M-S window. After all No one runs a plot beyond so far. Wm.
