Query on creating material/texture

Hi Guys,

How's everybody doing? BTW, i would like to ask again your assistance this time regarding creating a material or texture on AI.

I have a BMP image 768 x 576, 1.68MB files size. What I did was, went to Manage tab > Styles Editor > Expand Material browser and click the New button (Create new style). Then apply some settings including material Color Style.

When I applied it to the object, it creates lots of small box shape and when I chage the scale in the Style Editor it does not give me what I wanted.

Can anyone help me. I do want to apply it on 1250mm x 1120mm plate.

Here is the image

do you want that image to be the size of the plate? when i take it out to 1000% i get 4 tiles of your image. The image you have there doesnt tile well and i dont know of an options to "fit to part" which i think is what you are after right?

Hi Matt,

Yes you are right. Because, the material is a fabric for fire protection. And its possible to wrap the whole plate with that dimension. In AutoCAD there is an option Fit to GIZMO.

in autocad yes there is. but i havent seen one with inventor. I dont make my own materials though because i rarely render anything. Do you have any other images of it?

i tried blowing the image up so it was the correct size(several hundred percent) and it still tiled it. Not really sure why. i hope someone has the answer for you.

Actually, I have reduce the file size because, when I look at the images from the AI files under texture the largest was 367 x 367 395KB.

I think the issue as that these material scans are not tileable. if you look at the images for other materials like carbon fiber you will see the right side ends in a way that the left side matches up when its wrapped. Do you have a cloth that you are scanning to get these images?

Hi Matt,

Yes I do have the fabric. If that would be the case then, how or should I say what is the correct process on scanning in order to get the correct Tileling.

im honestly not sure because ive never attempted it before. if you go here

go to fabric>plain fabric you will see some of them say tiled. I believe this means you can tile the fabrice vertically and horizontally so it lines up.

You may nee to take a large scan and play around with cropping small portions of it until you get a tile that can be aligned with itself vertically and horizontally.
