MisterJingles Posted September 22, 2009 Posted September 22, 2009 Hi all I recently upgraded from Autocad 2007 to 2010. 2007 had a cool function called EXPLODE, so if you had 5 of the same blocks and only wanted to change 1 of them, you could EXPLODE it and it became independant and you could change it without affecting the other 4. What is the command which does the same thing in 2010? I cant seem to find it. Thanks Rob Quote
MisterJingles Posted September 22, 2009 Author Posted September 22, 2009 Excellent! So that my embarassing moment for the day. I couldnt find the key on the ribbon so presumed it had changed. Sorry to take up forum space guys. Thanks Sparky Quote
GE13579 Posted September 22, 2009 Posted September 22, 2009 FYI MrJ, you can BEDIT a block and then BSAVEAS and BCLOSE. Then you can INSERT your newly defined block. Depends how you want to go about it... Just thought you might be interested in another option... Quote
ReMark Posted September 22, 2009 Posted September 22, 2009 In AutoCAD 2010, assuming you are working in the 2D Workspace, you'll find the Explode command on the Home tab, Modify panel, 2nd icon in from the left in the bottom row of icons. It is no longer the red firecracker it used to be. Quote

ReMark - I see that icon daily, cant believe I missed that one. The first time I needed it after upgrading I looked for a bit then left it. Ive never actively looked again and then just posted this topic. I apologise, that was silly. Im usually pretty good at finding things I am missing. Quote

If blocks are very similar I usually change them to a dynamic block and then you can change each insertion individually. Quote

Ahhh I didn't know I don't use it much but would have thought that would only be the case with BSAVE? Certainly if you use BSAVEAS it gives it as an additional option in the INSERT drop down menu. MisterJingles Posted September 22, 2009 Author Posted September 22, 2009 I dont save my blocks, I just draw them, then cut and paste as block. Autocad saves it for me. Then when I need a variant of that I usually copy one, explode it, change it and then cut and paste as block again. This saves it as a different block and I have no problem. If I need to reference any of the blocks again I just find it on my drawing on copy it. Is there a problem with this way? I know its not the best way but are there any potential problems with it? I know its not the best way but are there any potential problems with it? if it works for you why change it. I like the speed saving of already having all the blocks available for use so we use a central library. each time somebody uses a new component it gets added centrally and is available to all. Quote
