Is it possible to create and share Profiles using TrueView 2009 ?

The crux of my question is thus :

Engineers would like the facility to view, and periodically print out, drawings we produce.

In order to maintain the set-up of drawings, we have a folder for all parts of AutoCAD containing linetypes, symbols, plotting setups etc on a network folder.

I have updated the Options in my version of TrueView 2009; question is, can I 'export' my Options setup and get everyone in the office to use (by default) the same Options that I have setup ?

It is possible to share options I'm told. We are doing the exact same thing here; allowing those who don't use autocad to view DWGs.

We are still in the midst of working it out, but to do this you have to export a file from the registry, and run it on every machine you wish to use the "profile" on.

If you've got Autodesk support, they should be able to help you with finding the appropriate file. I'll try and write up how to do it once we've done it ourselves.

Thanks for the update funky. I managed to create the .reg file; and then created a small .bat (I don't know how to create .exe files) file so that it would silently install TrueView and also merge the registry file onto people's machines.

The only issues that arose were that some people didn't have up-to-date Direct Draw on their machines; so the install failed.

If I had more know-how I could have wrote a program to check that, and then install anything that was missing.

Ok, here's what should work.

  1. Set up Trueview09 the way you need it,
  2. Open up the registry (command prompt > regedit).
  3. Find
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Autodesk\DWG TrueView\R6\DWGVIEWR-7001:409\Profiles\>
  4. Right-click and export to a network accessable location.
  5. On each computer just double click the file, and it will automatically update and/or overwrite the registry.

Hope this has been of help!:)

On each computer just double click the file, and it will automatically update and/or overwrite the registry.

More specifically, you have to import this registry information for each *user* on each computer that may use TrueView.
