ALAN@EDS Posted October 5, 2009 Posted October 5, 2009 Hi all, I need help quickly. I have been given a rush job by a customer. My only problem is that I need a 2D (plan) symbol for an earth excavator (aka digger, backhoe, JCB). If any body could provide me an industry-standard symbol or a link to one I would appreciate it. I only have a matter of hours to source one to include so any help would be gratefully received. Cheers Alan Quote

ALAN@EDS Posted October 5, 2009 Author Posted October 5, 2009 Hi Shibuboss, Thanks for your speedy response but it's not quite what I'm after. What I need to know is if there is a "symbol" for an excavator rather than a "drawing" of one. As an example, I operate mainly in the electrical field and the "symbol" for a downlight is a circle. The drawing of a downlight would look much more detailed and not be necessary to show it's position on the electrical plan. I need the excavator equivalent if there is one. I hope that clarifies what I need - thanks for helping anyway. Cheers, Alan Quote
Krztoff Posted October 5, 2009 Posted October 5, 2009 Hi, in our country we don't have specific symbols for heavy machinery, we mostly use blocks, like Shibuboss posted here, you should contact a local construction company and ask them if there are such symbols, if not, then you can create your own. ALAN@EDS Posted October 6, 2009 Author Posted October 6, 2009 Thanks for your comment Krztoff, The panic is over and (unfortunately for me) they decided not to produce the particular drawing that required an excavator symbol - so in the end I didn't need to continue my search. Your comment got me thinking about my inital request though - and the more I thought about what I was asking for the more peculiar it seemed to me (so what other members of the forum thought I shall not ask). Why would anyone need a "symbol" for an excavator anyway. A "drawing" of one yes, but a "symbol" on a plan is strange. The client that asked me if I had one obviously had his marked up drawing in mind but I just said "no problem, I'll get one off the net" and left it at that. So I'll give it some more thought and maybe follow up with the client or another construction company in the near future. Thanks again anyway for your input and thanks Shibuboss for your consideration too. All the best, Alan Quote
haagiiglt Posted November 9, 2009 Posted November 9, 2009 You are always welcome buddy. Hey shibuboss! Can you find for me Excavator 3D plan? I need in short time only 2 day... Quote
sparklerach Posted November 9, 2009 Posted November 9, 2009 Hi haagiiglt, I found some good 3D models on cben.net. It is a free Cad block exchange website. Go to cben.net. Click 3D models, then 3D trucks and there is a nice 3D excavator on the forth page along with lots of others. Hope this helps. Sparklerach Quote

Why would anyone need a "symbol" for an excavator anyway. A "drawing" of one yes, but a "symbol" on a plan is strange. For a plan drawing a symbol doesn't make a lot of sense. A simplified outline to show size would make sense. Otherwise a rectangle with the words Excavator in the middle is about all that would be required. If it was a process flow diagram of some kind then a symbol would make sense but it would still look a lot like the side view of the object to convey the idea. Quote
