I'm having a rather troublesome issue.....

random OS crashes while drafting in autocad 09\

I'm running the full version with patch#3 on a custom

machine with XP pro SP3, it's an asus motherboard

with a pentium 4 3ghz processer & a gig of ram....

drafting alone and the entire system crashes, not just

cad lock up...anyone else fighting this...it's damn annoying

thanks scotteg

Please tell me that is a typo above re: 1 gig of RAM. It is, right?

What graphics card are you running?

How big is the drawing file size?

Are you doing just 2D work?

When did the problem first occur? Did you make any hardware or software changes recently?

Does the drawing use Xrefs?

Do you make use of scalelists?

Do you have problems with any other Windows related program?

Are you running an anti-virus program in the background? Do you keep up-to-date with your virus definitions and run a scan on a regular basis?

remark-

I'm running an ATI 9250 128 mb card,

it started when i upgraded from cad 05 to 09

most of my work uses xrefs...have not noticed any difference in file size...ie small files with no xrefs crash too...no i do not use scalelists

I have not had this happen while using any other programs....

yes i run webroot updates daily...about a year ago i had to replace the motherboard cause the cpu fan bracket broke...i added another internal drive and reloaded the entire machine cad05.......upgraded to SP3 for xp pro....have not had a problem until i upgraded to cad 09....

i'd say it crashes at least 2 every 8 hr session.....thoughts?

thanks

I think an increase in RAM is definitely called for. A minimum of 1GB will get you to 2GB. How many memory slots do you have? 3 or 4? You might want to consider adding 2GB. If you are working with large files add 3GB and edit your boot.ini file to include the 3GB switch.

Norwalk is pretty busy these days with condo construction and improvements to roads especially around the Maritime Museum. I work in Norwalk but live closer to Hartford.

How long has it been since you left Norwalk? Where are you now?

2gig upgrade solved my crash problems with acad 2009 after installing the up dates and turning off the registry cleaners. I ended up running repair of the installation.

You have four slots...OK. How many are populated? Just one?

What are you using for memory? DDR400, DDR333 or DDR266?

I was just in the Madison/Clinton area a couple of weeks ago visiting friends. Had an Aunt who used to rent a cottage in Clinton for two weeks every summer.
