chelsea1307 Posted October 12, 2009 Posted October 12, 2009 Is it possible to remove xrefs without opening dwgs? Xrefs with LOTS of scales have been attached to a set of dwgs and now only one computer can open them, and its a laptop and they happen to be out of the office. Is there a way to detach the xrefs without opening the dwgs (opening them just crashes autocad)? Quote
ReMark Posted October 12, 2009 Posted October 12, 2009 Can partial open be used? See this: http://lynn.blogs.com/lynn_allens_blog/2005/09/autocad_hip_tip.html Quote
chelsea1307 Posted October 12, 2009 Author Posted October 12, 2009 It said it could not partial open because it had AEC objects, and to make it so i could partial open re save the file as 2007 with AEC objects exploded, then as a smaller note below it says partial open is not allowed for drawing with objects from newer versions. Im assuming that means if it was created with a version after 2007 (which should really be 2009 since it saves as 07) it cant be partially opened, am i right there? Quote
ReMark Posted October 12, 2009 Posted October 12, 2009 Sounds like you're stuck. Can't fully open the drawing as it crashes AutoCAD. Why? Not enough RAM? That could be an easy fix (compared to other things). Can't partially open the drawing because it has newer AEC objects within it. I don't use Xrefs so you'll have to bear with me here. When a drawing is opened that contains an Xref and the Xref cannot be found what happens? Quote
chelsea1307 Posted October 12, 2009 Author Posted October 12, 2009 I think it just moves on, it leaves text at the insertion point that says xref-filelocation I have as much RAM as my 32 bit will recognize, the laptop that will open it is a 64bit, all the rest of our machines our 32, the laptop is our test dummy and hopefully we all will be upgrading soon... ReMark Posted October 12, 2009 Posted October 12, 2009 And there is no way to strip out the scales in the Xrefs right? And how much RAM do you actually have? Quote
chelsea1307 Posted October 12, 2009 Author Posted October 12, 2009 Not that I know of. Only through the actual dwg being referenced. I have all 4 slots filled with 1GB but my comp properties only shows 3.25GB Quote
chelsea1307 Posted October 12, 2009 Author Posted October 12, 2009 For now I have changed the folder name where the xref is located and now when i open the dwg that references it it cannot be found and opens. Quote
ReMark Posted October 12, 2009 Posted October 12, 2009 Thanks for the update. While not a fully satisfactory solution at least you can finally open the drawing. So when are the new 64-bit computers coming in? Quote
