Architectural Tick issue

I am using CAD '09 and have been having trouble correctly plotting the architectural ticks. I draw the dimensions in model space and on a dimension layer with settings set as 0.18 line type. The issue is that in model space the ticks show up as being filled, whereas in paperspace they show up as being outlines. I have checked my settings with a fellow student who also uses architectural ticks but we cannot find any differing settings.
