manchest Posted October 19, 2009 Posted October 19, 2009 Hi I am still new to 3D, need help inproving the attached drawing of a termination arragement in a electricity substation general termination.pdf general termination 2.pdf I have not used any rendering, dont understand this at the moment I have used the sweep command to create the cables, the problem with this is it creates lines running along each quadrant of the cables, and circular lines at change of direction. Is there away of hidding these lines? Thanks for your help Quote
shift1313 Posted October 19, 2009 Posted October 19, 2009 It has to do with the ShadeMode. on the View panel you should see something that says Shaded w/hidden lines or something like that. This is where you change it to wireframe etc etc. There should be a shademode for this with no visible edges. You can also create you own. fyi. Autodesk inventor has an electrical routing portion built in as well as frame generators etc. Its perfect for this type of work. Quote
manchest Posted October 19, 2009 Author Posted October 19, 2009 I have tried shade mode, but only seem to be able to change between 2dwire, 3d wire, Realistic ect ect like visual styles does. I have found I can turn edges off Visualize panel, edge effects which makes the cables look how I want, but the steelwork looks rubbish without edges Quote
f700es Posted October 19, 2009 Posted October 19, 2009 Try this, type DISPSILH, if it is set to "0" then change it to "1" and then see if you have a change. Also set FACETRES up a bit, default is .5 I think. Maybe set to 2 or 3. Sean Quote
manchest Posted October 20, 2009 Author Posted October 20, 2009 Thanks for your response I have tried both DISPSILH (1) and FACETRES (3) but they do not seem to have any effect on the sweep. I also tried it in a new drawing, drawing a polyline with arcs and sweeping a circle along it. The 2 commands still seem to have no effect on the drawing Quote
NBC Posted October 20, 2009 Posted October 20, 2009 Try using VSEDGES. Existing visual styles are not changed when you enter a new value for this system variable. Any new value entered for this system variable temporarily creates an unsaved new visual style Quote
manchest Posted October 20, 2009 Author Posted October 20, 2009 Thanks again for your responses Changing the VSEDGES TO 0 removes all the edges on the drawing, so the cables look good, but the steel work looks worse general termination 3.pdf Quote
NBC Posted October 20, 2009 Posted October 20, 2009 If you are changing VSEDGES to create a new visualstyle, would it be a good idea to create overlapping viewports - whereby one viewport has the visualstyle which contains VSEDGES set to 1 or 2 (to show the edges on steelwork) and the other viewport has the visualstyle which contains VSEDGES set to 0 (to remove the edges for the pipework). Obviously, if you choose this method, you would have to manage the layers in the separate viewports accordingly. Quote
manchest Posted October 20, 2009 Author Posted October 20, 2009 Hi NBC Overlaping viewports is not something I have done before, when I put 1 viewport over the other, the top viewport acts like a wipeout and therfore I can not see the bottom viewport. Is there a varible that can the vieport clear Quote
