PeteUK Posted October 20, 2009 Posted October 20, 2009 Hi I'm measuring existing components and trying to input them into AutoCAD 2009 in both 2D and 3D formats. I'm quite confident in 2D, however struggle to show some of the curved elements correctly. I've also had a stab at 3D which I understand the basics of, but again can only really draw 'squared' objects - I can't seem to understand how to draw curved surfaces. For instance I can draw circles and arcs fine in the X & Y axis, but can't change, modify or mirror these on the Z axis. Ultimately I'm trying to draw and develop components that will be machined in a CNC machine, so want to be able to model them on CAD first. Is basic AutoCAD 2009 suitable for this? I've looked on Amazon for some 3D books, has anyone read any of these and could recommend them? 3D AutoCAD 2009: One Step at a Time http://www.amazon.co.uk/3D-AutoCAD-2009-Step-Time/dp/0979415535/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1256059671&sr=8-2 Introduction to AutoCAD 2009: 2D and 3D Design http://www.amazon.co.uk/Introduction-AutoCAD-2009-2D-Design/dp/0750689838/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1256059671&sr=8-6 AutoCAD 2008 3D Modeling Workbook for Dummies http://www.amazon.co.uk/AutoCAD-2008-Modeling-Workbook-Dummies/dp/0470097639/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1256060044&sr=8-1 Thanks for any help. stevsmith Posted October 20, 2009 Posted October 20, 2009 I have this book. AutoCAD 2008 3D Modeling Workbook for Dummies. And to be honest, it is a reasonably good book for introductions to 3d modeling. The main thing about learning 3d autocad is figuring out how to manipulate the ucs icon. Once you have started to master this, things will become lot clearer and easier. look into the ucs 3points, ( I cant remember the exact name) this will let you rotate the ucs. Quote
ReMark Posted October 20, 2009 Posted October 20, 2009 One book I have on my shelf is AutoCAD 2007 3-D Modeling - A Visual Approach by Alan J. Kalameja which I highly recommend. I have not checked to see if there is a 2008 version. I've also got the 3D AutoCAD 2009 - One Step at a Time book as well. Quote
