chelsea1307 Posted October 20, 2009 Posted October 20, 2009 My laptop is set up with 2 users, one being me with administrative rights and the other for my boyfriend and friends to use with no administrative rights. Last night when I tried to log onto mine it started like it should, accepted my password moved forward like it was going to open up my desktop then, jumped back to the part where you choose which user you want to log in as. I can still log into the second user which makes it possible for me to use it for school but i cant access my own, fortunately all my files also live on my flash drive. Is there a way to get administrative access on the second account without going into the first? I tried click on the option to change account type but it didnt do anything. Any suggestions on what i should try next? Quote
stevsmith Posted October 20, 2009 Posted October 20, 2009 Have you tried starting up your computer in safe mode? See if this lets you get into your user login and try to change the admin settings through this method. Quote
alanjt Posted October 20, 2009 Posted October 20, 2009 Generally the users are saves as separate files (which can be deleted), but Administrator isn't the same......I guess this post is just wasting time and space. LoL Quote
chelsea1307 Posted October 20, 2009 Author Posted October 20, 2009 Havent yet, will check that out tonight, at work right now and cant go messing with my laptop. Any other suggestions I can work through them tonight until something works... hopefully Quote
chelsea1307 Posted October 20, 2009 Author Posted October 20, 2009 also been debating going back to a restore point from last week, added new software and everything worked fine, and the new software still works fine in the other user, until last night Quote
Strix Posted October 21, 2009 Posted October 21, 2009 ... then, jumped back to the part where you choose which user you want to log in as. And somebody hasn't installed a screenshot of this as your desktop as a prank? Quote
chelsea1307 Posted October 21, 2009 Author Posted October 21, 2009 nope... the only people who have had access to it are me and my boyfriend and he is not a computer person at all. Quote
chelsea1307 Posted October 21, 2009 Author Posted October 21, 2009 The IT guy took it home to see if he could fix it. said it started fine in safe mode he did some stuff and now it works fine. Hopefully it stays that way and hopefully the stuff he did didnt mess anything i need up Quote
chelsea1307 Posted October 21, 2009 Author Posted October 21, 2009 I have one from early last week, didn't do me any good though because it wouldn't let me access it from the non administrator user. If IT messed anything up i but i have access to my user it will come in handy Quote
