I've got an old boardwalk detail with a wood grain hatch pattern in it. How can I save it to use on other details?

Without having Autocad infront of me (home-going-time in a sec), I'd say there are two ways my dear paduan.

either, save it where autocad saves it's hatch patterns: C:\Documents and Settings\your name\Application Data\Autodesk\AutoCAD version\R17.1\enu\Support - there you find a .PAT file that contains all your hatch patters. Save your hatchpattern at the same location.

Or, save it to your own custom location (recommended I think) and set uip Search Paths to go there (Tools > Options > Files >.... hmm.....someone needs to fill in this part). The good thing about this is that you can save all kinds of stuff here, and you know what to bring with you when you switch computers.

...Support File Search Path is what I think you're missing Tiger.

If you want the hatch saved you can either drag the hatch to a toolpalette and then simply drag and drop for later.

You can search on line for a GETPAT.LSP that will extract the hatch pattern to a file for you, then place that in the aforementioned locations.

Probably other solutions, those are two viable ones.
