Getting Acad to load and perform faster

If i'm boring you with all my ideas and questions about how to customize this and that :) here's another one to push you off the edge

Since i'm in a position of having a slow PC, and with my 3D work, which is why i mainly use acad, i try to maximize everything to perform smoothly

So things i know so far:

• i can quietly quit communication center by

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Autodesk\AutoCAD\R17.1\ACAD-XXXX:XXX\Applications\InfoCenterAcConn "set value 0"

and get it back if needed by NETLOAD - command line - getting the comm. center back choosing AcInfoCenterConn.dll from AutocadXXXX folder

• i can also remove the loading picture from Acad by typing in the shortcut properties after acad.exe" /nologo

- don't know how to apply that rule to always, since this is linked only to a shortcut opening of acad, not when you double click a *.dwg

I always work in Autocad classic view, but i need to get accustomed to ribbons soon - the command line is all i need to work, and i like to keep it that way - like my big work space, and quick drawing etc

If anyone feels the need to update the list, or talk how and why feel free.

I didn't mention the options/display/display resolution & performance - but if anyone knows an important part of it that may hold the answer to quicker response and workflow in acad feel free to share

Working in 3D the biggest thing i can do to speed up the process /customization wise - is to largely decrease display resolution to below bare minimum set by default

tnx for readin and i hope to see good ideas and C&C :)

One must also consider the hardware setup too. Starving AutoCAD with the bare minimum of RAM won't help performance. And a top notch graphics card would seem like a no brainer too. If money is no object 15,000 rpm hard drives are available. How about overclocking the CPU? On the software side just running Windows and AutoCAD and nothing else (no IE or anti-virus).

I completely agree hardware is important, but my thoughts were focused to what if you're in no position to do that and you'll looking at Autocad like a Prius - it does great galon/miles :P but you want to push it even more

whether by customization, style of workflow or etc

so hardware aside - how to tweak it so that it does not load unnecessary things that by default slow it down, like for instance these two things i've described - loading without the logo screen really does speed things up - and it's such a foolish thing to consider at first glance

A couple of forum members have tackled this question in the past in response to complaints about how slow AutoCAD 2009 was running. There were a couple of dozen suggestions some of which can also be found at the AutoDesk website. I suggest that you use the Search feature above to find the appropriate threads. Repeating the suggestions here would just be too laborious.

mea culpa mea maxima culpa, i'll search for answers

Look. There is no need to apologize. When you see the list of suggestions you'll understand what I mean. So much information that already exists on this site gets repeated it reaches the point of exasperation. No offense or slight was meant. I think most users tend to under-utilize the Search feature or don't even know it exists.

Search using the words slow AutoCAD or AutoCAD slow. I think it was rkent that created the original two page list of ways to speed AutoCAD up.

You're welcomed rocneasta. I hope this makes up for my abruptness earlier. :)

hehe ReMark you weren't abrupt, you were just straight forward as all people with knowledge are when faced with a question raised so many times. i act that way myself in certain situations, and keeping in mind your 10.5k posts you did get asked the same question alot :)

thanks for helping out, great to be a part of this community
