Jason_Titan Posted August 1, 2008 Posted August 1, 2008 Hello and good morning. My engineers and draftsmen are having trouble opening AutoCAD files through Windows Explorer, and the problem seems to have come up after installing SW 2008. If they open a drawing from the AutoCAD interface, then the drawings open up immediately without problem. If they try to browse to the folder that a drawing is saved in and then open it from there, it takes several minutes to open the file. Whether AutoCAD is already open or not makes no difference at all, and we show no problems with anything on the network/server side of things. CAD drawings are the only ones that take a long time to open, and they only take the extra time when opening the file through Windows Explorer. Does anybody know whether this is a true issue caused by SW 2008, or do you know of any other particular reason why this would be happening? We upgraded to SW 2008 about a month ago and things have been slow since then. Any help at all is appreciated! Thank you, Jason Griffith IT Programmer Quote
fuccaro Posted August 10, 2008 Posted August 10, 2008 I never came across this problem but I can confirm you that there are some compatibility problems. I had to fix my AutoCAD menus after I installed SolidWorks. Quote
Strix Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 does it make any difference if you do an 'open with' instead of just double clicking? can you see what the CPU is up to whilst a drawing is opening? Quote
Jason_Titan Posted August 11, 2008 Author Posted August 11, 2008 No, it doesn't make any difference at all what they do or how they do it. Quote
jxliu Posted August 19, 2008 Posted August 19, 2008 We experienced the similiar problem after installing SW2008 SP4 with AutoCAD2004. However, after we removed AutoCAD and reinstalled it again. Everything comes to normal. The reason is still unknown. Quote
Beef_Wellington Posted February 19, 2009 Posted February 19, 2009 Did you find a solution? We have the exact same probelm SW2008, and Autocad 2000I. There seems to be a lot of "issues" with Solidworks 2008 in general. Quote
jxliu Posted February 28, 2009 Posted February 28, 2009 No. I only suggest them to uninstall SW and AutoCAD, then reinstall SW first, AutoCAD second. And remember not to install 'desktop search'. I also consult this problem to the SW dealer's technical support, and got no helpful suggestion. Quote
