I'm using 2009LT and when I save a drawing down a few releases, I can't open the file. When I open the file in 2009LT it says this DWG was saved by an application that was not developed or licensed by Autodesk. I'm thinking object enablers are involved. I downloaded some a few years ago for 2002LT, but only got them downloaded by luck. I'm not all that familiar with this procedure and I have found them on the autodesk site, but am not sure which ones to download. I go into the 2009LT enablers folder and nothing there is listed with the LT.

I would download all of them, but am not exactly sure I know how. For instance, do I click on the executable? Where do I save it to. And, is that all there is to it? One of them says it's German only. Two are architectural 2009 object enabler (32 bit) and (64 bit). The drawings I'm working with are floor plans. Like I said, I'm not very good at this.

Double click the executable file you got from the AutoDesk site to install the enablers and it will put them where they need to be.

Thank you. I clicked on run the program and it put in in my temp files folder. Unfortunately, the enablers were not ther problem. The cad drawing still won't open. It says it cannot find the file even though I click on the actual file to open it. I don't understand why two out of the three files opened, but not the third one.

Have you tried running a RECOVER on the 3rd drawing?

I did recover, purge, and audit. I'm saving it down from 2009LT to R14. I thought maybe that's why, but there was no problem with the other two when I did the same.

OK, just talked with the architect and he said the drawing was done in Microstation. He's going to send the file to his engineers and try to save it to AutoCad. This puzzles me because I was able to open the initial files when I first got them. Not familiar with Microstation. They will resend the file when converted. We'll see what happens.

BTW, properties on the file say's it opens with AutoCad.

Just an update for anyone interested. They sent me a new file and everything works fine now. Not sure what they did because the architect sent it to one of his other people to fix it, and they use Microstation.

Sounds like you were trying to open a *.DGN file, which is the native file format for Microstation IIRC. They probably sent two *.DWG files, and one *.DGN file. It's happened to me before. 8)

I don't have the file extensions showing in my folders and I already deleted the bad file. The icons were all the same though.

Thanks for the follow-up.

Just a quick question - I'm curious to know the reason for not having file extensions showing.

Anybody can feel free to express their reason(s).

Just takes up extra space in the folder. 90% of my files are .DWG files anyway, and I pretty much know what the other icons look like. PDF, Visio, etc.
