bonehead411 Posted November 16, 2009 Posted November 16, 2009 We're looking to move into the modern world at some time in the near future, and have been investigating the usual 3D software choices, and so far AutoCAD Plant 3D seems to be an ideal solution, considering the field we're in. Has anyone on the forums had any experience with it? And would you recommend its use? I'm sure, like any other package, it has its pros & cons, I just wondered if anyone can give me the inside scoop. Hugh_Compton Posted November 16, 2009 Posted November 16, 2009 I have downloaded the trial for Plant 3D but haven't tried it yet. There are a few other options out there: Pipework & Structural Steel http://www.3DCADMax.com 3D AutoCAD Pipework – http://www.HerculeDesign.com Or if you'd prefer 2D: 2D AutoCAD Pipework - http://www.3dcadmax.com/2DPipeFittingsAutoCAD.htm Autodesk also offer AutoCAD MEP - http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/index?siteID=123112&id=3290681 AutoCAD MEP is the front runner in high end piping programs. Inventor Professional has a pipe program that is impressive but has a very steep learning curve if you are from an AutoCAD background. Quote
bonehead411 Posted November 17, 2009 Author Posted November 17, 2009 Thanks for the feedback Hugh. Why didn't I think of downloading a trial version??? Anyway, I have now. Probably won't get to road test it till after xmas though, waaay to busy at the moment. I'll take a look at the other alternatives you listed. Already checked out MEP & Inventor. We've had reps round for both, and both seem to be just a little bit full on for our purposes. We remain unconvinced. Quote
qbi Posted January 8, 2010 Posted January 8, 2010 what "field we're in." are You. ? All software presented here IMO is for "low range" piping projects only Quote
bonehead411 Posted January 8, 2010 Author Posted January 8, 2010 Hi qbi. Website: http://www.plasticoneurope.com A very large part of our business here in the UK comes from supplying Odour Control Systems, to include: Scrubbers, Carbon Filters, Extract Duct, Recirculation Pipework, Dosing Tanks, Exhaust Stacks etc. Quote
qbi Posted January 8, 2010 Posted January 8, 2010 hmm, I think, You should try for example AutoPlant (bentley software). Not expencive, user friendly, and easy to customize. It can be used with either autocad, revit, acad mep, pds and many more. here is a link: http://www.bentley.com/en-US/ Im not a reseller or something but I have an experince using it for "semi- range" complicated projects, and it suits our needs Quote
