Trisha Posted November 17, 2009 Posted November 17, 2009 I have a general arrangement drawing. PDF format and I want to convert this into a dwg-drawing. Is this possible? I am using autocad LT 2009! Quote
SPARKY77 Posted November 17, 2009 Posted November 17, 2009 It Is possble, but it does not always give a good result. It may be better to import the PDF and trace it. Quote
Trisha Posted November 17, 2009 Author Posted November 17, 2009 I managed to convert the file with a converter I found on the net, but the converted file is not good enough and can not be used. How can I import and trace the pdf file? Quote
SPARKY77 Posted November 17, 2009 Posted November 17, 2009 I am not sure if this is avalable with Autocad LT but go to Insert-PDF underlay. If that is not available save the PDF as a JPEG and insert that. Quote
Coosbaylumber Posted November 17, 2009 Posted November 17, 2009 For a while I used a product called Ghostgum available through some free source of a Midwest college in USA. It worked in common with some other product and would give an error message if you tried using it alone. So you had two downloads to perform. It would give you the PDF drawing back in common ACAD 1009 DXF format. Was a note they were continuing to develop the product, to mainly eliminate the second download. But it mainly worked on drwaing origianlly done whole as big lines not itty bitty ones from some scanner. Thus you ahd way less clean up and debris. Others here say to try CUTE or another version of the PDF converter, but they only work after you buy a whole new computer, the Acad 2010 disk, new Windows 7 O.S. and.... $395. Per their advertisements. Wm. Quote
cadnightjo Posted November 17, 2009 Posted November 17, 2009 Hi Trisha, which converter did you try?? Quote
spikes2020 Posted November 18, 2009 Posted November 18, 2009 i use Aide PDF to DXF converter, once in DXF you can easily get a DWG... w^3 aidecad dot com (i have less than 9 post so i cant post websites yet >. they have a free trial for like 20 or so converts, i am sure there is some open source software out there but if i have to do a lot i just use a pdf combine tool and this software can manage over 200 page PDF document and only counts towards one of your uses, no mater the size of the document. Tankman Posted November 18, 2009 Posted November 18, 2009 I have a general arrangement drawing. PDF format and I want to convert this into a dwg-drawing. Is this possible? I am using autocad LT 2009! A number of ways to do this, none toe the line. You can open the *.pdf file in Adobe, and save as a *.jpg file. Insert the *.jpg file into AutoCAD, scale to a known dimension. Trace and then delete the imported image. Simple enough but, never clean. NEVER. Quote
bbankston Posted November 19, 2009 Posted November 19, 2009 Or open the PDF file in Illustrator (hopefully the PDF is vector - you can check this by opening the PDF in Reader then zooming in. If it's vector you won't see any loss in quality of the lines.) Export the file as a DWG or DFW or DXF in then open in Illustrator. I've had to do this numerous times on different projects. Quote
