cso Posted November 17, 2009 Posted November 17, 2009 I am working to finsih up my final project for my first Cad class and all of a sudden my ribbon bar dissappeared. It says "The Ribbon does not have any tabs or panels currently loaded". I did search this forum and there seems to be quite a few answers, but none that seem to help me (or for my beginner status, I need more help)! There are a few other things that have changed in addition to the ribbon message. 1.When I first start up the program it used to prompt me for what workspace I want to work in "choose task based workspace from the list below..." and my choices were 2d, 3d, and maybe another. Now those options aren't there, just an ok button to click. 2.When I pull down on the menu browser the only option that comes up is "view", whereas before there were many options. I don't even have "new" to open a new project. 3. Finally, In the bottom right of the screen there is a "gear", that used to let me change my workspace from 2d to 3d. Now, my choices are "customize; workspace settings; and save current as" As suggested in previous posts: I tried typing "Ribbon" in the command line and nothing happens. When I type in "toobar" on the command line, a long list of CUI commands appear, but I'm not sure where to go with this. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!! Quote
Tiger Posted November 17, 2009 Posted November 17, 2009 Sounds like your menu or CUI or Profile got unloaded... or that you are missing a key custom-file. Are you on a school computer? Do you have individual Profiles there? Do you have a CAD-tech guy (most likely your teacher) that takes care of installation of AutoCAD on the schools computers? Quote
cso Posted November 17, 2009 Author Posted November 17, 2009 No, I am on my home computer. I am using AutoCAD Civil 2009. It is a home use license through my husbands work, , but he does not use it himself for design. There is no official tech support, but he could probably get someone to help me. They are so busy, that I'm not sure when I could get help, and my project is due soon. Is there anything I can try in the meantime? Do you think I will have to reinstall the program? Thanks Quote
CJJ Posted November 17, 2009 Posted November 17, 2009 First, I'd look at your paths. In the AutoCAD options (right click command prompt and select "Options"), click on the Files tab and then look at the two support file search paths and the customization files paths. Make sure those directories exist and aren't empty. That should at least give you an idea of where AutoCAD is looking for its menus, and you can tell if you've inadvertently moved or removed one of the folders it needs. Before you go about reinstalling everything, I'd at least try to do a repair install first. That should be able to fix some problems without losing your settings. It might be able to rebuild missing files in the search paths, as well. Quote
cso Posted November 17, 2009 Author Posted November 17, 2009 I checked under the file tabs support and Customization. The support tab has 12 options to choose (ex. C:/programfiles/Autocadcivil3d2009/support and 11 others), and under Customization there are 3 to choose: Main customization, enterprise customization and Custom icon location. Should I choose one of these? I'm not sure what it is I am looking for should as far as if I moved or removed a file. If I have to do a repair install, is there a place to find out how to do that? chelsea1307 Posted November 17, 2009 Posted November 17, 2009 try menuload and load the acad civil cui Quote
ReMark Posted November 17, 2009 Posted November 17, 2009 From the AutoDesk Discussion Groups courtesy of Johnny Mullins: For anyone having this problem.....right click in the command line area and select options. Select the "profiles" tab. Select the "AutoCAD" profile. Select the "Set Current" button. Select your previous profile or the correct one you really want current and close. This should bring your "Ribbon" back. Quote
CJJ Posted November 17, 2009 Posted November 17, 2009 cso: You just need to make sure that there is something there on the file paths. If the AutoCAD setting was left blank, or if you open Windows explorer and look at C:/program files/Autocad civil 3d 2009/* and found that the folder isn't there, then we'd know you will probably want to reinstall. Since they're there, I think the problem is probably a setting in AutoCAD. The above posts by ReMark and chelsea are good place to start looking. Quote
cso Posted November 18, 2009 Author Posted November 18, 2009 Problem solved!! I checked the profiles tab and there were two profiles. > & AutoCAD AutoCAD was selected, I changed it to > and hooray my ribbon is back!!! I also tried the menuload options, but that didn't work. I'll keep that in mind for next time. Thanks ReMark and everyone else!!!! Now back to work for me. Quote
ReMark Posted November 18, 2009 Posted November 18, 2009 You're entirely welcomed cso. Glad to hear you are back in business. Quote
cso Posted November 19, 2009 Author Posted November 19, 2009 I'm back! Now, when I started up again today, I had the same problem with the ribbon bar not showing. I solved it the same way and the ribbon bar came back. HOWEVER, it is not the ribbon bar that I have been using. It is all symbols and very complicated looking. There are 3 rows with about 30 symbols in each row. I need to get it back to the way it was when I used to just open it up. Can anyone help? Also, once I get it back can I save the new settings so I don't have to go through this each time? Quote
ReMark Posted November 19, 2009 Posted November 19, 2009 It either the Ribbon (in 2D or 3D workspace mode) or its toolbars. Do you think you have toolbars on your screen? Did you try changing workspaces? Symbols? As in heiroglyphics? Quote
cso Posted November 19, 2009 Author Posted November 19, 2009 You are a genius again ReMark! I was only seeing toolbars with many symbols; I guess you could say heiroglyphics. I checked my workspaces and switched to a different one that came up with the ribbon bar. I also think I figured out how to save this as my new working profile. What is baffling is that since I switched to the new " unnamed profile", yesterday all sorts of new tools and workspaces are available. Also the beginning start up prompt for choosing my workspace is still blank, so I am just saying "OK". I can figure these things out later, at least I am up and running again! Thanks!!!!! Quote
ReMark Posted November 19, 2009 Posted November 19, 2009 Set up one of the workspaces just the way you want it then using the Save current as option save your new/customized workspace under a different name like My2Dworkspace. It will be added to the list of workspaces available along with the standard 2D Drafting and Annotation, 3D Modeling and AutoCAD Classic workspaces. Genius? Me? I think not. Just a lucky guess. But you're welcomed just the same. Quote
