Bridge-Guy Posted November 28, 2009 Posted November 28, 2009 I have issues when working with solids. They never seem to display properly. The drawing is a simple 3D model of a bridge foundation. When working in 3D wireframe mode, all is good, but when the view is shaded it doesn't look correct. Please help. Document1.pdf Quote
Tankman Posted November 28, 2009 Posted November 28, 2009 Welcome to the forums Bridge-Guy! Where are you posting from? I'm just getting into rendering myself and, have seen a few ugly renders myself. Luckily, I don't need to render anything but, a CAD person feels impelled to "play" from time to time. I just, for fun, finished the below 2" PVC pipe 'n fittings render. More than good enough for now. I've been playing with shade, materials, all kinds of stuff. I have been using pretty much the same settings for my piping. You'll soon hear from those in the forums who know. 'Tis a holiday long weekend, look for next weeks' replies. Have fun! Some of your tubing or rebar looks out of place. I might try VIEW>ORBIT and look around a bit. Look at top, bottom, left, right, front and back views, something is out of alignment. Quote
SEANT Posted November 28, 2009 Posted November 28, 2009 Sometimes these shading issues are due to geometry set at large distances from the WCS origin or an extremely large camera to target setting. The image in the pdf has fractured meshing similar to the file attached in this thread. http://www.cadtutor.net/forum/showthread.php?t=26725 Quote
Bridge-Guy Posted November 28, 2009 Author Posted November 28, 2009 SEANT, It is obvious from your posts that I am severely lacking in knowledge!! When I tweaked the camera position and target, it made the view look perfect, but when i orbit to another view the issues become apparent again. Please take a look if you have time. I will continue scouring the other posts in hopes of figuring out what is causing my issue. Bridge-Guy PS: Edmonton, Alberta (Canada) - It is getting cold up here!! trial2.dwg Quote
SEANT Posted November 28, 2009 Posted November 28, 2009 AutoCAD, and cad programs in general, can only use a limited spread of precision when performing math calculations. That spread becomes very thin when the geometry is placed that far from the World origin (the position 0,0,0 after Command: ucs world ). Numerous 3dSolid operations perform better when the geometry is closer to the origin, shade/renders do better with geometry, lights, cameras, etc are all in relatively close proximity as well. trial3.dwg Quote
