How to dimension 3d objects in CAD 2007

Included in my picture is what happens when I try to dimension the hand rail,

do I need to play with the UCS to get the dimensions right? When I use the dim, hor command the dimension shows up either behind or in front of the object.

Thanks for any help, MFranke

3D Modelling and Rendering. You came to the right forum. Now if only the eminently certified professional J.D. Mather were here he'd have you up and running in no time.

Have you tried changing the position of your UCS relative to the object being dimensioned?

Your dimension will be placed in your XY plane. So wherever your UCS is positioned, that's where your dimension will be placed.

Cad64 has it right, the dimension is placed on your XY plane, But on the Z elevation of the current UCS so you need to set the UCS origin as well as it's XY Axis.
