CADsince07 Posted November 29, 2009 Posted November 29, 2009 Hi everyone, As part of a course I am doing, I have to use Autodesk Inventor Professional 2010. I have had to draw a few really basic sketches and also do some extruding etc and I have a couple of questions. 1. How can I dimension an angle? All i can seem to be able to do is measure it, but I cant get it to show a dimension. Can anyone explain in really basic terms how I can dimension it? (the angle is 30 degrees - 15 degrees either side of a centre line) 2. For my second task i need to show 3 different views and then a 3D style view (created by extruding one of the views). However, when i extrude it, it seems to clear all the other views off of the view. So what I am wondering, is how can I print off the drawing with the 3 views set to 'front' and the extruded bit shown in a 3D type way (isometric?? I dont know). I take it i need to create another 'viewport' type thing like in autocad?? 3. How can I look at my sketch in a layout (with a page and titleblock) or is this not possible in Inventor?? (sorry im very used to autocad). I only seem to be looking at the 'model space' (again autocad speak) I would really appreciate any help - I need (if anyone can spare the time) a step by step breakdown of how to do these things as I really am a complete beginner. Thanks so much, Quote
shift1313 Posted November 29, 2009 Posted November 29, 2009 are you working in a part file(.ipt) or a drawing file(.idw)? Are you trying to add a dimension to your sketch to define the line, or show this dimension on an engineering type drawing? The 3 views can be shown by starting a drawing file, creating a base view and 3 projections. How much experience do you have with the software? The basic inventor scheme- you have part files(.ipt) in which you create a basic part. Now inventor 2010 allows multi-body parts inside a part file, but thats not typically how you do it. An assembly file(.iam) is where you put your parts together, add constraints to arrange the componants in ways to allow their movement, etc. You can create parts while in an assembly file or add pre-made .ipt files or insert components from the content center(nuts, bolts bearings etc). The assembly is also where you get into dynamic simulation, studio(renders and animations) as well as other things like cable/harness features, frame generator. There are other files as well for different things like creating an exploded animation. The drawing(.idw) file is where you create your 2d printouts with titleblocks. The best thing i can suggest is for you to go to the Help menu. There is a section for transitioning from AutoCAD to inventor. That should answer most of the questions you have about the difference between the two. Hi everyone,As part of a course I am doing, I have to use Autodesk Inventor Professional 2010. Safwah Posted December 1, 2009 Posted December 1, 2009 Dimensioning angles is done by picking two lines (along the line itself, not on the centre or end points of the line) with the standard dimensioning tool or "D" as a shortcut. Take note of what the cursor changes to, its should look like an angled dimension. You can also try picking both lines and right clicking, then go to dimension type and picking angle. As for the rest you want to create and .idw file which is how we all do our 2d drawings etc in inventor. And as mentioned above, create a bse view create projected views from the base view for your plan, side elevation & isometric. If you got any questions either post here or send me a pm. Quote
