rkent Posted December 1, 2009 Posted December 1, 2009 Hi all I am having a problem when I try to explode a drawing the dimensions are massive when I explode it. Can anybody help me Thanks First use DDIM to see what dim style is current, you could modify that dim style and change the scale under the Fit tab to a smaller number, a scale factor for what you want. So if 96 is listed which is for 1/8" plotted scale, maybe change to 24 for 1/2" scale, as an example. Then explode the drawing. Quote
mrbucket Posted December 1, 2009 Posted December 1, 2009 .....OR freeze the dim layer, then explode. Quote
ReMark Posted December 1, 2009 Posted December 1, 2009 Don't explode dimensions unless you like massive drawings. Quote
rkent Posted December 1, 2009 Posted December 1, 2009 I don't think the OP is exploding dims, rather a drawing (probably an inserted drawing) with dimensions included. Quote

spikes2020 Posted December 1, 2009 Posted December 1, 2009 shouldn't you put all the dimensions on a separate layer on paper-space? Then you don't have to scale them and they dont mess with your drawing. Quote
ReMark Posted December 1, 2009 Posted December 1, 2009 While some of us do all our dimensioning in our layouts many new users elect to dimension in model space and use the Annotative option. Personally, I find this cumbersome but each to his own. Use what works best for you. Quote

iskalipsi Posted December 2, 2009 Posted December 2, 2009 And thus the warning to never explode dimensions (or hatches)! :Dlol. I remembered in my first job, when i tried to explode a grass hatch and i cant undo it at the point where the hatch i still whole. I had to erase the entire exploded hatch. all i wanted back then was to trim the hatch. Quote
ReMark Posted December 2, 2009 Posted December 2, 2009 ReMark - Are there any problems associated with dimensioning in PS? None that I have encountered. I usually set up all my viewports prior to dimensioning. It is very rare that I find myself changing a viewport scale. Quote
CJJ Posted December 3, 2009 Posted December 3, 2009 I actually like to do dimensioning and text in paperspace as well. This way you can be certain that all of your text is the same height and is uniform across all of your drawing sheets, without having to account for different scales and without messing with annotative text. The only problems that I've had are if I need to pan the viewport, change scale, etc AFTER I've dimensioned/noted the drawing, so make sure you've got your sheet looking exactly how you want it to look before you start dimensioning.
