Confusing Mass Properties

I have an assembly built up of different parts and other assemblies.

When I look at the properties of a part itself I get a different mass value compared to when I am looking at that same part through the the assembly's BOM view.

(The difference is significant - the part is about 80lbs and the assembly's BOM reckons it is 10lbs).

 

I have tried updating mass properties etc. but nothing seems to work. The result is that my assembly is shown as a lot lighter than reality and I have no quick way of getting accurate assembly mass.

 

Any ideas?

Ok, I have got the correct values now but I am not sure what it was that fixed it. These are the things I did:

1) I noticed that the project type was set to vault when it should have been set to single user, so I switched it back.

2) The parts' parameters are driven by an Excel spreadsheet. I went through the extra steps of saving the spreadsheet again, updating the assembly and updating mass properties. This one seems obvious but in other projects I got the correct info without going through these steps.

 

Any ideas on the cause?
