ecworks Posted December 9, 2009 Posted December 9, 2009 Using AutoCAD LT 2010 I was able to successfully insert/attach my pdf files into my title-block and it looks great. However when I send the .dwg file to my client (he is using AutoCAD LT 2009 he can open the .dwg file but the .pdf files I attached was not visable, only my title block and lettering on the border. Any ideas as to why this happened? Is there any way to set up the .dwg file so any .pdf files once attached will stay attached even when I e-mail it to someone using another version of AutoCAD LT? thanks in advance for your help! Cad64 Posted December 9, 2009 Posted December 9, 2009 You need to use ETRANSMIT when sending drawing files. Check your Autocad Help files for information on this command. Quote
ecworks Posted December 9, 2009 Author Posted December 9, 2009 Thanks, I tried using Etransmit but my client has AutoCAD LT 2009 which doesn't have the ability to attach pdf file into an dwg file. The dwg with pdfs attached looks great on my computer (LT 2010) but will he be able to see the pdf images in the dwg when he opens the dwg in LT 2009? Quote
Cad64 Posted December 9, 2009 Posted December 9, 2009 Maybe you should think about converting the pdf to tif or jpg and then insert that into the drawing instead of the pdf. Quote
ecworks Posted December 9, 2009 Author Posted December 9, 2009 thanks for the tip, I'll try it. Question: Do .jpg and .tif files perform differently when inserted into a dwg file than a .pdf file? thanks, Quote

ecworks Posted December 9, 2009 Author Posted December 9, 2009 I have been able to attach a pdf file into a dwg using LT 2010 but have problems when I send it to a client, the pdf files don't go along for the ride. I think I fixed that using Etransmit. However I'm trying to find out if a better option is to insert the document as a tiff file instead of a pdf so it really is attached to the dwg and not just referenced. My main concern is that the dwg travels well via e-mail with my inserted documents staying inserted so my client can open up the dwg and see my inserted documents with no problems. Quote
ScribbleJ Posted December 9, 2009 Posted December 9, 2009 LT 2010 may well be able to attach PDF's but since your client is using 2009 it cannot. I think that is what your problem is. Just convert the PDF to a JPG file and attach it. It will work the same way as attaching a PDF. Make sure your client has the JPG file in the same directory as the DWG file and AutoCad will be able to locate it just fine. Quote
Cad64 Posted December 9, 2009 Posted December 9, 2009 You can't attach a pdf file into a dwg file, you have to convert a pdf to a tif. In 2010 you can attach a pdf using the PDFATTACH command. But previous versions do not have this capability. Quote
ecworks Posted December 9, 2009 Author Posted December 9, 2009 Hmmm, I just tried that. I converted my pdf file (its a one page brochure) into a jpg. When I used the Ole Object insert button it did insert the jpg but all I see is a square box with an icon representing that this is a jpg but I don't see my document itself. Quote
