twobig4u01 Posted December 9, 2009 Posted December 9, 2009 I work in California and we do a lot of Cal-trans jobs, I was wondering if anyone have there line types already made up that I can have. It would save me a lot time. Can I get them in a text format if possible. A10C.pdf A10D.pdf Quote
mrbucket Posted December 9, 2009 Posted December 9, 2009 Have you requested this of them? That kind of stuff is usually guarded and requires permission. Quote

I don't think it would be, if plans are submitted to them with the incorrect line types they will reject them. I went to there website and they don't have the line types available. Quote
mrbucket Posted December 9, 2009 Posted December 9, 2009 Have you received any files that contain these linetypes? I would just call them and ask for the right channels to go through. If your being subcontracted, they should be able to send them to you through email. Quote

And trying to contact them would be the last resort, trying to get information from them is difficult. Quote
CarlB Posted December 9, 2009 Posted December 9, 2009 Looks like Caltrans only recognizes Microstation/DGN drawings- http://www.dot.ca.gov/hq/oppd/cadd/rsc_files/webpage.php Quote

ScribbleJ Posted December 9, 2009 Posted December 9, 2009 Caltrans primarily uses Microstation so there would not be any support for AutoCad at all. I have done extensive amounts of work for them in the past so I know how hard it is to satisfy them. There is talk of them converting over to AutoCad or at least there was. I have not heard of anything recently about that though. Quote

That sucks, I was just hoping that someone out there has had the same problem as me and went to the trouble of making the line types in Cad and hopefully letting me use them. Quote
ScribbleJ Posted December 9, 2009 Posted December 9, 2009 I seriously doubt anyone that does Caltrans work uses AutoCad to do the work in since they don't use it. With that being said it would be equally doubtful that line types for AutoCad would have been created. Quote

There are exceptions to the rule but generally speaking it makes much better sense to do the work in Microstation since the conversion between the two different programs have issues, mainly with text. I have worked on AutoCad files in Microstation for an Army Corps of Engineers project before but it was a HUGE pain in the rump. The reason was because my boss at the time didn't want to fork out the money for more than one licensed seat of AutoCad and he is a full blown Microstation freak since his biggest client is Caltrans. Anyway good luck with the line types. Wished I could help you knowing what your going to have to deal with in creating them if you choose that route. Quote
