mrbucket Posted December 18, 2009 Posted December 18, 2009 Hey all. First issue I have encountered in awhile. We use PDF transmission of drawings of various sizes. During PDF making of legal size (8x14), I made it about 75% through 15 sheets and all of a sudden Acad wouldnt let me make PDF's in legal, and on top of that, it defaults to the printer and produces error ridden pdf into file folder that I started with. I use Adobe Acrobat Pro to combine these after production. I did recovery on it and still the same, I tried different drawings and same thing. However.......Any other size no problem. Any ideas? Did I accidentaly click something Im missing? Thanks in advance! Quote
rkent Posted December 21, 2009 Posted December 21, 2009 Have you tried re-creating the pc3 file? How about adding a custom legal size back in there? Quote
mrbucket Posted December 21, 2009 Author Posted December 21, 2009 Have you tried re-creating the pc3 file? How about adding a custom legal size back in there? Thanks for the response. I have tried re-creating numerous times for several different files. I have pulled an old template for legal just to double check, same result. What it shows in plot menu after it asks for custom paper size and my dwg to pdf is a default printer and no page size...... Its weird because every other template size goes no problem, its only legal. I honestly dont want to start un-installing and re-installing. Its only on occasion that I need to get these out pdf. But it is a must for sure. Could I have accidentally disabled it? Quote
rkent Posted December 21, 2009 Posted December 21, 2009 It sounds like you no longer have an adobe printer setup in Windows. I would drop back to Windows and verify you have an adobe pdf printer driver set up. Quote

Is that a stupid question? Quote
rkent Posted December 21, 2009 Posted December 21, 2009 I would start a program like Word and try plotting with Adobe Pro. If it works or not, report back. Again verify that it is still listed in Windows as one of your printers. I haven't had this happen so I can't say for sure, just trying logical steps. Quote
rkent Posted December 21, 2009 Posted December 21, 2009 You have tried shutting down autocad, restarting your computer, and starting autocad, haven't you? Always a good place to start with computer problems. Quote
mrbucket Posted December 21, 2009 Author Posted December 21, 2009 You have tried shutting down autocad, restarting your computer, and starting autocad, haven't you? Always a good place to start with computer problems. Yes, I have Defragged, cleaned registry, rebooted numerous times. Ok, Word creates legal size pdf. No problems. I uninstalled Pro and re-installed, still same issue. So im assuming the worst here and its an autocad issue? Quote
rkent Posted December 21, 2009 Posted December 21, 2009 Sounds like an AutoCAD bug for sure. Can you assign a custom page size to 8.5 x 14 and avoid the built in legal page size? Quote

Yes, I did try that. I set the page size for layout and then again set it as default, dwg to pdf.....it asks me for default or custom size (like it always has).......click custom that says 8.5x14.00...then goes back to that menu with no page size set, but it gives preview of size picked on the right. rkent Posted December 21, 2009 Posted December 21, 2009 I see in the image you posted that you are trying to use the PDF driver supplied by Autodesk. I thought you were using the Adobe Pro driver. When I use Adobe Pro it shows Plotter: Adobe PDF Converter - Windows System Driver - by A.... So, are you trying to use Adobe Pro or the Autodesk driver? Quote

It has always used that, and honestly, I dont recall it being different. Did you do something that makes it default to the pro? Quote
mrbucket Posted December 21, 2009 Author Posted December 21, 2009 update..... Ok, I just saw that it gives 2 options for pdf in my plotter menu now. I have never had any issues with the dwg to pdf.pc3 setting until now. What is the difference between the AdobePDF one and that? Quote
mrbucket Posted December 21, 2009 Author Posted December 21, 2009 Anyways, Thank You for your assistance, it truly helps to bounce ideas and issues off of someone! Quote

One is made by Adobe and is only available if you have Adobe Pro on your machine. The other one is supplied by Autodesk. Quote
