jaypooner Posted December 19, 2009 Posted December 19, 2009 Hi, I'm new here and I'm also very new to AutoCAD. Here's my question: How can you make a tapered cylinder? I need specific radii on both ends, with a specific height. Thanks! Quote
Tankman Posted December 19, 2009 Posted December 19, 2009 Sounds like a sheetmetal layout(?). Welcome to the forums jaypooner, where are you posting from? Try looking through the library at http://www.thesheetmetalshop.com/module-htmlpages-display-pid-198.html. I'm sure more forum members will be logging on if they aren't shoveling the heavy, wet, white "stuff" (blizzard goin' on East Coast, USA). Plan view looks like two [2] circles. Elevation, two horizontal lines, two vertical lines. Looks like a trapezoid. Quote
Cad64 Posted December 19, 2009 Posted December 19, 2009 Command: CONE Specify center point of base or [3P/2P/Ttr/Elliptical]: Specify base radius or [Diameter] : (Specify Base Radius) Specify height or [2Point/Axis endpoint/Top radius] : T Specify top radius : (Specify Top Radius) Specify height or [2Point/Axis endpoint] : (Specify Height) Quote
JD Mather Posted December 19, 2009 Posted December 19, 2009 Revolve or extrude with taper are other possible solutions. If sheet metal you might want to revolve a single line as surface and then Thicken. If you want flat pattern you might investigate Autodesk Inventor. Students can download Inventor for free from http://www.autodesk.com/edcommunity Quote
jaypooner Posted December 20, 2009 Author Posted December 20, 2009 Tank: california. and no its a solid 3d cylinder Cad: i'm not proficient enough to use code yet! JD: extrude with taper? ill look into that. revolve sounds plausible as well Quote
Cad64 Posted December 20, 2009 Posted December 20, 2009 Cad: i'm not proficient enough to use code yet! Code? It's a command line sequence. Type CONE at the command line and follow the prompts. Quote
SuperCAD Posted December 20, 2009 Posted December 20, 2009 LOFT and SHELL might be a good way of creating this. Quote
