Oi,

I'm trying to changed the transparency of 3d solids in my model, but by viewport. Because of my **** computer, i really dont want to create multiple models and render different materials just so that the can be transparent in my layouts. I guess to be more specific, I had a 3d solid model, and in my layouts i want different objects to be transparent, while some retain their non transparency. Any help?

And what program will you be attempting to do this in?

Sounds like something better suited to 3ds Max.

And if it helps, I have each object as its own layer, so possibly changing layer transparency in each viewport, in each layout?

I am not aware of any ability to change transparency via viewport.

No, I know the visual styles can vary by viewport, I want the visual style to remain realistic, I just want certain members to look transparent in separate viewports while some remain non-transparent.

I do not believe this is possible without a lot of work most of which would involve duplicating objects and materials and tweaking the latter.

Example: Stainless steel material (normal) and stainless steel material (semi-transparent). See what I'm getting at?
