finding line type definition

I want to find the definition of a line type loaded in a drawing. I have checked all the .lin files in the following path

 

C:\Documents and Settings\USER\Application Data\Autodesk\AutoCAD 2007\R17.0\enu\support

 

but not able to find the definition of that line type. Where can I find that definition.

If, for example, the dwg came from an outside source the linetype definition is embedded in the dwg. Look here for a routine to extract the definition.

as an aside, how do you embed the definition into a file? I have a number of "special" lines and I make sure the file is in a network folder but some engineers refuse to follow instructions - can I embed it somehow?

Just by loading the linetype the definition is "embedded". When you open a dwg, it isn't necessary for the dwg to 'find' a .lin file; the loaded linetypes' definitions are part of the dwg. Of course if the linetype definition has shapes, it needs to have access to the appropriate .shx file.

yes sorry, my definitions do use shape files (which I have pathed). Is there a way to embed shapes?

I believe if shapes are used, the shx file must be accessible (i.e. in the support path or hard coded paths).

For sure this is not new for you, just for the benefit of others: if you send out a drawing, use ETRANSMIT and AutoCAD will pack together everything the drawing needs.

but I will point out that (at least in 2006) fonts ARE NOT sent by default when using ETRANSMIT. Remeber to check the options!
