TLRstacker Posted August 13, 2008 Posted August 13, 2008 is there a way to do this in inventor easily? i have been looking and looking and looking. i can't find anything in the help files or on the forums. i have started looking into some of the various lionks around but it seems to be a WHOLE lot of info out there to sort through. i was wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction. basicly what i want to do is lift a block from say the "ground" straight up. i want to do this using a "rope" or "wire" the runs over a pully that is above the block and attached to a motor on the "ground" level as the motor drives it winds the rope in and hence lifts the block.... if that makes any sence. kinda the same way a crane would work. i guess. i have tried using the chain and V belt generators but it will only work with 2 sprockets or pullies. (i might be wrong about that but thats all i can get to work) can anyone helpme out here? or am i trying the impossible? i am trying to do this in the assembely also. i was thinking i may need to do it in the dynamic simulation area but i can't see anything in there that looks right either. TLRstacker Posted August 13, 2008 Author Posted August 13, 2008 in an effort to solve my problem, i drew a chain. i mean all the bits. and the put them into my MA (main assembly) but the PC didn't seem to like so many bits in one assembly so i deleted them and put them into a second small assembly. all good so far. i then insert chain assembly into my MA. still all good. i make chain assembly flexible. still going ok. i then try to constrain chain to a pin in my block (see other thread) and all hell brakes loose with inconsistant constraint warnings and crash! bye bye inventor? WTF? so i redo my chain assembly from scratch constraining it a diffenent way and re inserting it into the MA. fine. make it flexible. fine. then constrain and still innconsistant constraints..... but this time no crash. so i go back the the chain and redo the constraints again and still no worky.... i thought at first that maybe there was to many constraints in the one assembly. hence the crash. but seeing so many big fancy motors and such drawn in inventor then maybe i'm way off base there? i have come to the end of my teather for today but if anyone could help me out as to why this might be happening? that'd be sweet. thanx in advance. Strix Posted August 13, 2008 Posted August 13, 2008 I've just put your two threads together so it's easier for others to read the whole story Quote
TLRstacker Posted August 14, 2008 Author Posted August 14, 2008 edited to make more sence. oh and i worked the constraint thing out to. amazing how you spot the obvious after you have had a few hours break from it! Quote
TLRstacker Posted August 21, 2008 Author Posted August 21, 2008 ok so i THOUHGHT i had the constraints thing sused... i was wrong my problem is now this.... i have created the chain i want to lift my block and the chain by itself works fine. it follows the "path" that i made for it. but once i add a few more components to the assembly it tell me it can not solve at this point. everything works fine individually. and i have tried all different combos of parts and constraints to see if i can isolate the issue. i can't seem to work it out tho. is there a limit to the amount of constraints you can have in assembly? it seems to be the issue. i have made seperate assembly files where i can so that my MA dosen't need to think about ALL the constraints. but nothing i do seem to be working. ANY ideas would be GREATLY appreciated. Quote
shift1313 Posted September 6, 2008 Posted September 6, 2008 How is your chain constrained to your sprocket? Ive never reached a limit on constraints if there is one. Are you using "animate constraints" to lift your block? While ive never tried to use chain to lift a block i have used it to "time" two parts of an assembly that were counter rotating and actuated by an air cylinder. I modeled the air cylinder and constrained the assembly, all i had to do was animate constraints and tell the air cylinder piston(constrained to the body) to animate from 0-8" and everything functioned properly. I would assume if you constrained everything properly and to your sprocket then just animate the sprocket everything should work. just a guess, hope it helps. Quote
Boopidoo Posted December 3, 2008 Posted December 3, 2008 Have you found a solution? In your first thread I can see that you want to lift an object with a wire using pulleys which suggests that you need the wire to follow a defined path. I myself have a similar problem which I hevn't found any solution to. I want to model a flexible pushrod such as a brake wire on a bicycle but I have no idea on how to achieve this? Quote
shift1313 Posted December 3, 2008 Posted December 3, 2008 i can do this in solidworks but i havent tried in inventor. I know you can model a chain with links with inventor but im not sure about an actual flexible cable. Quote
swarup007 Posted March 2, 2012 Posted March 2, 2012 how to make an object flexible in component properties? Quote
JD Mather Posted March 2, 2012 Posted March 2, 2012 You should have started a new thread for your question. There is a difference between making a sub-assembly Flexible and the type of question asked here. The solution to the original question is to drive or animate a parameter. Attach your file here and describe your problem statement. Quote
swarup007 Posted March 5, 2012 Posted March 5, 2012 thanx for replay. i want to make a rope which will come out from the rope drum through different pullies and it will lift up an object. waiting for ur replay. Quote

swarup007 Posted March 8, 2012 Posted March 8, 2012 please give the solution for this. i have to bring out the rope over the pulley. Quote
