In a layout, I need to show my object sliced in half in one viewport. How do I do this?? I tried slicing my object and then changing its layer and then using the Union command to join them back together, but that makes both sides the same layer again. I can't have any "slice" marks in my drawing because it shows up in other viewports.

How can I show a sliced portion of my drawing in a single view port??

thanks

Yes, sorry it is. I drew it in 3d and am trying to show orthogonal (sp?) views of it, with a sliced view.

Have you looked at the SECTIONPLANE command?

Am trying it right now but not having any luck with it. I have the SectionPlane going through my object but it is not slicing it (i.e. I'm not sure how the command works after looking a couple tutorials..) This seems like it won't be viewport specific though and will be shown in all views.

Is there no easy way to hide a portion of a drawing in a viewport??

Maybe you're thinking of the clipping viewport command (VPCLIP)? I'm not sure if it will give you the results you're looking for.

Now use the SECTIONPLANETOBLOCK command, be sure to explore the settings available under the little arrow, especially Section Settings.....

Also, type section and start hitting the tab key to see other related commands.

Re: SECTIONPLANE command.

Cut your section in plan view. It will be easier.

Invoke command. Draw cut line through object.

Once cut line drawn AutoCAD exits command. Don't worry yet.

Select cut line. Right-click for options.

Choose Generate 2D/3D Section.

Choose type of section and location. AutoCAD handles the rest.

Result is a 2D section of your object.

Just thought of another option. How about the SECTION command? Since it is a solid the command acts like the SLICE command. The object type of the section will be a REGION.
